Chimes For Lunch — Restaurant in Mole Valley

We were asked to wait at the table outside while the lady prepared our sandwiches and drinks and then she brought them out on crockery etc so we just sat and ate there thinking nothing of it, but then when we went in to pay we were charged £20.20 for two sandwiches and 2 coffees when the prices on the board show as it being around £5 cheaper. When we asked about this they told us they were the takeaway prices and eat-in was more expensive. Instead of £4.80 as it says in the price list for the sandwiches we paid £6.90 per sandwich. This felt like a con to get more money from us - there were no signs and no mention of the takeaway prices being the only ones listed when we ordered. We also took our coffees to go because it had started raining and were still charged eat-in price. If the food and coffee were delicious I wouldn’t have even bothered with this review but the sandwiches were very dry and overall just not tasty. I ordered a BLT and there was no mayo or butter etc when served. The bacon was very sparing and looked borderline anaemic, there was literally a slice of cold bacon with a bit of mixed leaf and a quarter of a cherry tomato in. The coffee tasted like hot milk. I’m disappointed and won’t be returning. £7 for a sandwich is already a bit silly, please at least make the quality and flavour of the ingredients worth it! I used to come here a lot when the children were little and was always good. Went there today and asked for an iced latte and chicken and avocado baguette. After being told there were no baguettes at 12.15pm and they couldn’t do chicken and avocado I opted for a cheese and tomato toastie. The waitress came out with my iced coffee, when she handed it to me in a disposable plastic cup it nearly burnt my hand! I said to her “this isn’t iced, it’s hot” she answered “a little” I said “no it’s really hot” she took it back in and said she would put more ice in it, after ten minutes came back with a Luke warm coffee with no ice insight. Shocking, visited today, coffee weak, complained about this on the last visit. The girl who served us was misserible, obviously didn't want to be doing her job.... To make matter worse, offered my card to be told, only cash so I said why, is this because the owner is charged for each transaction, responce yes, this is not my problem. If you run a business, don't inconvience your customers because youre charged for card usage take it as a hit as all...
