I love pizza express but sometimes they get it wrong. We had fhe usual pizza and dough balls which we have probably 5-10 times a year. Unfortunately there was clearly an issue with the oven as everything we ordered was slightly undercooked. As we were starving due to moving house that day, we just ate what we were given with the intention of mentioning it when paying. It was only on over hearing another customer pointing out that their pizza was under cooked that we were made to feel that there was little point. The server pointed out to the customer, who was only drawing attention to her under cooked pizza and not requesting another or a discount, that it was always like that and no one else had complained. Unfortunately it is not always like that and no one would eat in Pizza Express if it was. I felt a bit mean not supporting the other customer in their quest to point out that their pizza was under cooked but I don't think the servers attitude or training would have made this worth while. I'll still be back for my pizza fix, just hope that they get the oven fixed.
Went back for another fix last week as my other half loves a pizza. It appears the pizza oven was fixed or replaced and we were served perfectly cooked pizza. The same server dealt with us and remembered us, probably due to my odd pizza toppings, which was great. As before she suggested that I change my order which would save us money, changing the pizza I ordered and exchanging a topping for another. She didn't need to do that and we would have paid the extra as we have done so many times before. It was busy and we were advised that there would be a little wait but we didn't notice that there was any kind of delay. It seems that there has been some positive action with regards to the under cooked food and attitude of the staff as there seemed to be more energy in the place. The hospitality business is a tough one and when you consider the hours and rates of pay its no wonder that occasionally staff aren't at their best. The fact that only a handful of weeks after a poor experience we returned and were given a perfect one is testament to the attitude of those...
Read morePizza Express? Pizza Depressed more like! We waited 3 minutes before being approached by FOH staff as there was a couple before us collecting Take Away.
We asked for a table for 2 the waitress wandered off grabbed a couple of menus and then went and stood by a table. Didn’t beckon us over or say “please follow me” or anything like that.
Once we were seated, we were directly under a very cold air conditioner so asked to be moved. We were told the Air Conditioner wasn’t even on, nicely timed as a cold blast of air descended upon the 3 of us, to which I replied,” Clearly it is!”
We have a table spare over there she said, pointing right by the door. I replied “Isn’t that going to be cold every time someone comes in? Can we move somewhere else please? Maybe towards the back?
She seemed taken aback by this and grumpily ushered us towards the back of the restaurant, before just walking away and leaving us to choose our table!
As we walked towards the back a surly waiter informed us that the back was closed. I pointed to a table not in that area and said is this okay? He ignored me. Far too busy to be dealing with customers, obviously. I said “excuse me, is this table okay? He nodded and returned to more important things.
We sat down and then decided that if the 3 staff members couldn’t be bothered then we didn’t really want to give them any money. At that point we left and went to another restaurant [Rialto Lounge] who were actually happy to see us, and had a great meal there.
I understand that the service industry is a tough place to work but these people at Pizza Express clearly weren’t interested in customers and certainly not in customer service. Won’t...
Read moreOn quick glance of pizza express cheese pizza you wouldn’t think much. The exterior is a dark, gloomy brown, but the chance of eating a wood-fired pizza was too much of a temptation on a drizzly day. Plonking down, I settled on a Quattro Formaggi (four-cheese) pizza and my partner opted for the Sophia Loren. I’m not a massive pizza lover, but when I do order one, I like them to be thin, crispy and absolutely flavoursome. Our pizzas didn’t disappoint. Crispy with oozing cheeses flowing across the crust and hidden basil leaves lurking in the golden – it was the perfect lunch filler. Sophia Loren was a beauty with rocket, cherry tomatoes, Parma ham and cheese, bursting with flavour with each bite. Soon the building filled up with hungry couples and happy families and I can definitely see why. With several more options on the menu and coming in at €10 with a drink on the lunch special, how could I not come back? It was a...
