Disappointing!!!! Waited 20 minutes after being sat down to be served! asked the bar twice and a wait staff walking past! Told someone would be with us! No luck! Only about 4 or 5 other tables so not a full house! and a table that sat down after me was served without hassle within 5 minutes! I had seen 3-4 waiters and 2 bar staff before I headed to the bar and said I’d been waiting for at least 25 minutes could I have a drink while I wait! No apology but he did walk me to my table and take my order! Drink arrived promptly food took about 20-25 mins! Not the worst! Was not acknowledged by staff really at all! Didn’t really seem like anyone cared that we were there! Pretty disappointing as we had come for a little date night and were considering booking a room in the hotel but we decided against! Food tasted good enough was pleased with the fish. I did nearly have to run after the waitress for some vinegar as she placed the plates down and didn’t ask about anything else just turned and left very quickly! Wine was not good and glass was dirty! Overall very disappointed! Bar staff friendly enough but not enough effort from the team as a whole to ensure we were taken care of!

The food at The Huntsman in Brockenhurst is truly outstanding. Every dish showcases incredible attention to detail, with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients that highlight the flavours of the New Forest. The menu is thoughtfully crafted, offering a great mix of classic British favourites and creative seasonal options. The quality is evident in every bite, from the perfectly cooked meats to the vibrant, flavourful vegetables. Their Sunday roast is especially noteworthy – generous portions, beautifully tender meat, and all the traditional accompaniments done to perfection. The atmosphere enhances the dining experience, warm and inviting with a rustic charm that makes you feel instantly at home. Whether you’re there for a hearty lunch or a leisurely dinner, The Huntsman delivers an exceptional culinary experience that keeps you wanting to return for more. Highly recommended!

Came here with family whilst staying in Brockenhurst. The staff were very friendly from when we arrived. Got us water for the table without us having to ask. When food was coming out our server went past a couple of times and looked to make sure all had arrived. He noticed 2 were not with the others and was going to chase as the remaining dishes came. The service was quick smooth and we were not rushed at any point. Our server Joshua was great through the whole night. Highly recommend coming here. Will hopefully return before going back home. At busy times would recommend booking so as to avoid disappointment. At the end of our holiday we decided to come here for breakfast. Didn't disappoint. Would highly recommend coming for any meal time they are open. Staff all friendly and helped book when they website messed up.

We have had two evening meals and a breakfast so far. The pizzas are superb - cooked fresh in the pizza oven. The second night I had the ale battered fish and triple-cooked chips which I have to say was the best fish and chips I have ever had - well done to the chef!

Breakfast was ok although I felt it was frowned upon to ask for a second glass of apple juice - even though I did not have coffee…

We have two more nights with them so will post another review regarding the accommodation/room.

So we have now completed our stay and would like to update our review to include accommodation and staff:

On arrival we were very pleasantly surprised with the accommodation - we stayed in the room named ‘Boar’ which is a very large room with old beams and contemporary decor.

We had large fluffy white towels, bathrobes, coffee/tea making facilities, bottled water and White Company toiletries.

The ambience in the pub was great and is clearly a very popular venue. The food we had during our stay was delicious and would recommend the pizzas and fish and chips with no hesitation.

The following is a recommendation to the owners/managers rather than a warning to future customers, as hopefully our points with be addressed fairly quickly and other guests won’t experience the same issues…

We stayed for three nights and in every B & B we have ever stayed in have had the bed made, the towels replaced, the bathroom cleaned and bottled water and toiletries replaced if they had been used.

Unfortunately, we had to ask every day for this to be sorted. We shouldn’t have had to ask…this is, in our opinion, a basic service provided by bed and breakfast businesses. If you are not getting the same service every day, you shouldn’t have to pay the same money each night!

On both occasions when we asked, we were immediately told, ‘No, we do not replace the water or towels.’ The initial attitude of the management/staff was pretty ‘off’ although they did sort the issues out each time…and actually apologised too. This ‘can’t do’ attitude is an easy fix - it costs nothing to be accommodating towards your guests.

You have a lovely pub and accommodation which has the potential to be a top place to stay - it would be such a shame to lose customers because of a lack of staff training in...

Overpriced food, deceptive menu. Sounds flamboyant but is overpriced rubbish. Asked to swap something upon order Waitress was rude made us feel uncomfortable and stupid for this. I was speechless but left it as was out with old friends and didn’t want to make a scene. Parts were missing from a lot of the meals and I was charged an extra £1 for missing cheese in my burger and it was served to me in a wedge because they simply couldn’t be bothered to melt it. Frozen fries with burger don’t expect that for cost.was appalled how I was spoken to twice by the waiteress, it gave me anxiety the whole meal she should work elsewhere and not in customer service. “ Hope to see you again, but not you two” Is what she said to us at the end of our meal upon payment. We only asked if we could swap venison for a beef burger upon order. We are real foodies and never have I had this kind of service.Ive been local all my life, i won’t be heading back here in a hurry!

Thankyou for your response, The waitress was making remarks when I asked about the ketchup in the burger, when we ordered too and when we left she said about us two not coming back first. As I said previously we had had a nice time seeing old friends but my partner and I felt as though we were an inconvenience from ordering but we let it slide, something I don’t expect when I am going out for food. I’m up for a laugh and a joke but I didn’t find this funny. When we left the same waitress made the remark first and our friends laughed it off but I actually didn’t find her making comments helpful or necessary. I wasn’t rude at all at any point, just asked if I could swap the venison for beef and asked questions about the ketchup because I don’t like ketchup and she was annoyed. This was made into a massive deal and made me especially feel stupid. I hope in future your staff will be more allowing for people who dine in your establishment and if they make a request and it’s too difficult a simple apologies we are unable to swap the burger would of been adequate without the added remarks. Once again thankyou for your response...

This place was really not very good. We booked the “big comfy” room. Initial impressions were alright, room is presented fairly well, tea and coffee facilities etc. pretty, tall ceilings. I attempted to have a bath, and found out the plug doesn’t hold water. Annoying. We then went to have dinner at the restaurant. I was pretty taken back by the prices, so I was expecting something really good, as I’ve paid less at fancy inner London establishments. Food was average, at best. Severely overpriced. For breakfast we decided to go to “the retreat” down the road. This was a great choice, It was great and you should go there too, if you’re staying. The cold. I wasn’t going to mention this as it didn’t actually bother me, and it is simply a “feature” of the building, but it may bother someone else. We stayed in December where it was 4C overnight. The room has large, single glazed windows, one of which did not properly close, meaning a permanent cold draft coming from the window by the bed. An electric heater is provided so they are obviously aware of this, but it is also loud. The noise. I don’t know what it is, but there is a permanent, loud, mechanical hum in the room (this isn’t the heater mentioned above. Possibly boiler?). It sounds like a diesel engine running outside. In addition, there is another high pitched noise that comes on and off, reminiscent of tinnitus. The bed. Now, their website describes this as an “uber comfy bed”. Lies. These are lies. I’m writing this review whilst sitting up on the bed after having slept in it. I assure you it is anything but “uber comfy”. Both my hips are in a lot of pain. It is somehow both too soft and unsupportive and too hard. I can feel the springs of the mattress. For reference, I’m 30 years old and of healthy weight. With the combination of the noise and uncomfortable bed, it was not a good night. In my opinion we grossly overpaid for this room. Upon checkout, nobody asked how our stay was, how we slept, whether everything was alright, only either we took anything from the honesty bar. Since you didn’t bother to ask, I...
