We have had two evening meals and a breakfast so far. The pizzas are superb - cooked fresh in the pizza oven. The second night I had the ale battered fish and triple-cooked chips which I have to say was the best fish and chips I have ever had - well done to the chef!
Breakfast was ok although I felt it was frowned upon to ask for a second glass of apple juice - even though I did not have coffeeâŚ
We have two more nights with them so will post another review regarding the accommodation/room.
So we have now completed our stay and would like to update our review to include accommodation and staff:
On arrival we were very pleasantly surprised with the accommodation - we stayed in the room named âBoarâ which is a very large room with old beams and contemporary decor.
We had large fluffy white towels, bathrobes, coffee/tea making facilities, bottled water and White Company toiletries.
The ambience in the pub was great and is clearly a very popular venue. The food we had during our stay was delicious and would recommend the pizzas and fish and chips with no hesitation.
The following is a recommendation to the owners/managers rather than a warning to future customers, as hopefully our points with be addressed fairly quickly and other guests wonât experience the same issuesâŚ
We stayed for three nights and in every B & B we have ever stayed in have had the bed made, the towels replaced, the bathroom cleaned and bottled water and toiletries replaced if they had been used.
Unfortunately, we had to ask every day for this to be sorted. We shouldnât have had to askâŚthis is, in our opinion, a basic service provided by bed and breakfast businesses. If you are not getting the same service every day, you shouldnât have to pay the same money each night!
On both occasions when we asked, we were immediately told, âNo, we do not replace the water or towels.â The initial attitude of the management/staff was pretty âoffâ although they did sort the issues out each timeâŚand actually apologised too. This âcanât doâ attitude is an easy fix - it costs nothing to be accommodating towards your guests.
You have a lovely pub and accommodation which has the potential to be a top place to stay - it would be such a shame to lose customers because of a lack of staff training in...
Read moreOverpriced food, deceptive menu. Sounds flamboyant but is overpriced rubbish. Asked to swap something upon order Waitress was rude made us feel uncomfortable and stupid for this. I was speechless but left it as was out with old friends and didnât want to make a scene. Parts were missing from a lot of the meals and I was charged an extra ÂŁ1 for missing cheese in my burger and it was served to me in a wedge because they simply couldnât be bothered to melt it. Frozen fries with burger donât expect that for cost.was appalled how I was spoken to twice by the waiteress, it gave me anxiety the whole meal she should work elsewhere and not in customer service. â Hope to see you again, but not you twoâ Is what she said to us at the end of our meal upon payment. We only asked if we could swap venison for a beef burger upon order. We are real foodies and never have I had this kind of service.Ive been local all my life, i wonât be heading back here in a hurry!
Thankyou for your response, The waitress was making remarks when I asked about the ketchup in the burger, when we ordered too and when we left she said about us two not coming back first. As I said previously we had had a nice time seeing old friends but my partner and I felt as though we were an inconvenience from ordering but we let it slide, something I donât expect when I am going out for food. Iâm up for a laugh and a joke but I didnât find this funny. When we left the same waitress made the remark first and our friends laughed it off but I actually didnât find her making comments helpful or necessary. I wasnât rude at all at any point, just asked if I could swap the venison for beef and asked questions about the ketchup because I donât like ketchup and she was annoyed. This was made into a massive deal and made me especially feel stupid. I hope in future your staff will be more allowing for people who dine in your establishment and if they make a request and itâs too difficult a simple apologies we are unable to swap the burger would of been adequate without the added remarks. Once again thankyou for your response...
Read moreThis place was really not very good. We booked the âbig comfyâ room. Initial impressions were alright, room is presented fairly well, tea and coffee facilities etc. pretty, tall ceilings. I attempted to have a bath, and found out the plug doesnât hold water. Annoying. We then went to have dinner at the restaurant. I was pretty taken back by the prices, so I was expecting something really good, as Iâve paid less at fancy inner London establishments. Food was average, at best. Severely overpriced. For breakfast we decided to go to âthe retreatâ down the road. This was a great choice, It was great and you should go there too, if youâre staying. The cold. I wasnât going to mention this as it didnât actually bother me, and it is simply a âfeatureâ of the building, but it may bother someone else. We stayed in December where it was 4C overnight. The room has large, single glazed windows, one of which did not properly close, meaning a permanent cold draft coming from the window by the bed. An electric heater is provided so they are obviously aware of this, but it is also loud. The noise. I donât know what it is, but there is a permanent, loud, mechanical hum in the room (this isnât the heater mentioned above. Possibly boiler?). It sounds like a diesel engine running outside. In addition, there is another high pitched noise that comes on and off, reminiscent of tinnitus. The bed. Now, their website describes this as an âuber comfy bedâ. Lies. These are lies. Iâm writing this review whilst sitting up on the bed after having slept in it. I assure you it is anything but âuber comfyâ. Both my hips are in a lot of pain. It is somehow both too soft and unsupportive and too hard. I can feel the springs of the mattress. For reference, Iâm 30 years old and of healthy weight. With the combination of the noise and uncomfortable bed, it was not a good night. In my opinion we grossly overpaid for this room. Upon checkout, nobody asked how our stay was, how we slept, whether everything was alright, only either we took anything from the honesty bar. Since you didnât bother to ask, I...
