Mellors Oatcakes — Restaurant in Newcastle-under-Lyme

A taste of home!!!

Now living in Doncaster I don't get the chance to eat these local delicacies, unless I buy them in the supermarket and they are NOT real oatcakes trust me!

I called in at this little shop at the bottom of Cambridge Drive in Clayton for a takeaway breakfast. The blond haired lady serving at the counter couldn't have been more helpful. I ordered 2 Triple Breakfasts I think at £4.50 each which consisted of beans, egg, bacon, sausage, mushroom, cheese, onion and whatever I missed. I was going to have 3 cheese and onion oatcakes for myself, but the lady pointed out it was cheaper to do it as a triple breakfast and asked if I liked beans and egg and added them for no extra cost. ➕ I also bought 3 dozen oatcakes to take home. (They freeze well!)

Once home the 3 of us tucked in and they were GORGEOUS, still warm AND really filling. We'll definitely be going back though it'll be a while (sadly) 3½ hour round trip from Doncaster but I definitely recommend this little gem. Double thumbs up 👍 👍

21 May 2022 Finally managed to get back for the Triple Breakfast. My son had just pulled a night shift and got straight in the car for a 2 hour journey to his grandparents and said when I pulled up outside Mellors. "Feed me!" I ordered 2 x Triple Breakfasts now £5 (one vegetarian) and but who cares, inflation cost of living etc. just as good, just as filling and both inhaled ‼ Same lady still there, also just as nice (bless her). Walked away with 2 dozen oatcakes (we call them cheese transportation devices) and a dozen pikelets (not much freezer space)

I wish they'd think about opening a shop up here in Doncaster. I'm sure these delicious delicacies would catch on VERY quickly.

Tried here at the weekend as not been since the new owners have taken it on, used to have food from Mellors quite often when the old owners had it and it was always delicious. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the food I had, the quality has gone down a lot and the taste. The oatcakes were slimy somehow and the cheese was very greasy and had a strange texture to it, the bacon was incredibly over done and had turned like cardboard and was unable to be eaten.
