Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

Usually I like this branch of Costa however today I was left feeling somewhat disappointed. I was meeting my friend for a coffee since lockdown restrictions have finally eased up and we had planned on sitting outside at the tables with our coffees for a catchup. We thought we'd take advantage of their any size any drink 50p offer celebrating their 50th anniversary. When I arrived around 15:20 I discovered that a member of staff was taking in the tables and chairs so they must have wanted an early finish! I then checked the opening hours and noticed that it closes at 18:00. So why take the tables and chairs in as early as 15:20? I would say 16:30 or 17:00 is a much more reasonable time. The place wasn't busy despite the offer being on but whilst we were queuing up some people walked out, probably because the tables and chairs had been taken in! Updated 1 year later - I've downgraded my star rating to 2 stars from 3 stars So, visited this store one year on and a few things to note. Some of the staff are extremely unwelcoming and rude. Which is disappointing. The newer staff are great. A couple the baristas are extremely poor at executing a coffee drink. You'll also note the barista area and machine are not being kept clean, which makes for a poor experience. Hopefully they'll improve by my visit next year.

My first visit to this store. Store was clean and well kept. Staff seemed friendly. I ordered a Cortado and iced strawberry mint tea. The Cortado was not completely up to scratch. A little on the weak side, tasted more like a latte. Coffee art was not up to scratch, this'll need more practice and patience by the barista. I love this spot for catching a cool refreshing drink and just looking at the hustle and bustle around me. They serve nice coffees and a variety of munchies if you're in for a quick bite.

When I visited today, the place wasn't crowded and alternate tables were marked for public use. The till was covered in an acrylic (?) barrier and staff were wearing masks to protect themselves and the customers. I hadn't noticed if there were sanitisers provided for use, but I didn't mind at all because I had one handy in my jacket pocket.
