Dixy Chicken - Benwell — Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

I had an extremely unpleasant and worrying experience at Dixy. I was served chicken wings that were clearly rotten—the meat smelled foul and was completely unfit for consumption. I immediately returned the wings, only to be handed the same box again, just with a different lid. The replacement was just as bad—still stinking, still clearly spoiled.

When I told the staff I didn’t want a replacement and asked for a refund, they argued with me instead of addressing the issue. I even asked them to try a bite to see for themselves, but they refused. One staff member claimed they had sold over 5,000 wings that day, as if that was proof enough that the food was fine. Quantity sold doesn’t excuse serving unsafe food.

I am extremely concerned about the food safety standards at this location. If I could detect the rot immediately, it’s horrifying to imagine how many other people—including families and kids—might have eaten the same spoiled meat without realizing. To make matters worse, I’ve since developed a stomachache, which makes me fear I may have been exposed to harmful bacteria.

This isn’t just a bad experience—it’s a public health concern. I expect a full refund and immediate investigation into the hygiene and food quality standards at this branch. This needs to be taken seriously before someone gets...

ABSOLUTE JOKE OF A PLACE!!!!

Staff are clueless when not on the phone to their mates. Takes 5 minutes just to place an order then another 10 minutes before someone gets off the phone and starts to prepare your order. Then after waiting 20 minutes it's fair to ask how much longer you have to wait and all you get is blank stares then "2 minutes, 2 minutes" reply, without even looking. After atleast 30 minutes you might get what you ordered, might take another '2 minutes' Pre ordering does NOT improve the waiting time either. Urgh! Been ill since my visit at lunchtime today 17th June Ordered what looked like plain chicken (no mention of sauce on the menu) When it came it was covered in hot sauce which I can't tolerate, nor like.
