If I could give 0 I would. What an appalling experience to be coming to a restaurant that we’ve been too many times for birthdays and celebrations, we are so disappointed.
We got there at 6:20, 10 minutes before our table was booked at 6:30, queuing out of the door, understandable as Valentines has just passed. We finally got sat down with drinks being served with some lovely staff!
We then placed our order with the waitress who was so lovely. Usually we get asked if we would like bread before starters to come which wasn’t even asked. Noting this, we asked the waitress for the bread. To then being served 4 slices of hard sourdough bread with a small pot of the butter. Previous experiences there was usually a basket filled full with different types of warm soft bread with multiple pots of butter!
Our starts came, and in all fairness, they were amazing! The garlic mushrooms was stunning! We really enjoyed these apart from the croquets which was like mush with both parties! Not a single bit of meat which stated on the menu!
Between the main we had 4 rounds of Guinness which was from a can which was horrible. From previous experience in a pub, this was not good standard especially for a restaurant with such high class! To be served pints of Guinness in a cider glass???
Our mains later arrived around 8:10/8:20, understandable and happy to wait as each table near enough occupied! What a disgrace! 3 Louisiana meat platters, all that were vile! And that’s an understatement. I personally couldn’t eat my meal and then my farther had to leave his meal to be sick after eating a large amount of fat in the sausage, just to clarify this was not cheese as stated in the menu! They didn’t look cooked on any platters, no grill marks at all! The onion rings & chips on all meals were dripping in oil, probably because they were dropped in the oil before it was fully heated to the correct temperature. The chicken was hard and overpowering. The brisket had lovely flavour and cooked well but so much fat! The ribs on my plate were burnt and couldn’t be touched My niece couldn’t even eat her chips as they were dripping with oil! Two of the other meals were amazing and was enjoyed by both parties!
We had learnt at the end of our experience near enough every guest in this restaurant had complained. Instead of taking it to the manager the hard working staff were to blame. They were amazing all night and very hard working.
We will not be visiting again nor...

The moment you step through its doors, you're greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. On my recent visit, I began with the Caerphilly Cheese Fondue, which was perfect, my fiancée had the Duck Confit Croquettes which was cooked perfectly, and both presented beautifully making for a well-rounded starter.
For the main course, I opted for the Louisiana Meat Platter, again this was presented beautifully but very but! The meal was very dry and even come with frozen chips not freshly cut which is what you would expect, as a result I left more than half of the meal. The side dish had stone clod chips and not that pleasant, I left that after a single taste.
My fiancée had the Diamond Rump Steak, the meat was tender and juicy, with a deep, Savory flavour that spoke volumes about the quality of the ingredients used. This dish was perfect apart from the chips, these let the main dish down they should have been home cooked and not frozen.
The dessert menu is equally impressive, based on the dryness of the one main meal and chips we didn’t have a dessert.
Service at Junction28 is top-notch, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who are more than happy to offer recommendations or answer any queries.
In conclusion, Junction28 offers a dining experience that is both sophisticated and approachable. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking to enjoy a fantastic meal. The quality of the food, the elegance of the presentation, and the exceptional service all combine to make Junction28 a standout choice in Newport's dining scene. Highly recommended, I just hope they take notice of what’s been said here, such a small improvement would make this a perfect dining experience, considering we went they for a birthday meal not one member of staff said congratulations despite me adding it to the notes...
Read moreWe have been coming to Junction 28 for over 15 years and will not be going back. The atmosphere has been lacking for a few years now and this is down to the place being large with not enough customers to fill it out. The service is great and staff are friendly and the place is clean but when I go out I like the food to be reasonably priced, tasty and presented well this is where we had a problem. We ate from the set menu, which is what we mostly have done before. There was no free bread, which was a nice touch every other time we had been, you now have to pay £5 for bread. We both had fried Brie to start and it was ok but nothing special. The mains were not great and we both left just under half, which I never do when I’m out! I had steak pie and it was basically soggy puff pastry underneath with a puff pastry top which wasn’t super puffy and the filling was mostly mushroom and a small bit of streak! It came with a massive amount of mashed potatoes and about half a bag of frozen peas all plonked on a plate like my wife had served it up!! Oh and no gravy, they asked me if I wanted gravy a few mins later which I wish I hadn’t accepted as the gravy was so sweet it ruined the meal entirely, I love gravy so I put quite a lot on. My wife had some sort of fish in a pie dish covered with cheese, it was served on a plate with a paper doily on it? What sort of place that serves food that costs as much as the Celtic manor puts paper doily’s on a plate? The white wine was warm £23.50 for warm white wine? We were going to have 3 courses on the set menu but decided we couldn’t stomach any more of the poor food so left after paying £100 for the two courses bread and wine which we could have paid half of that in a pub somewhere. I wish I had some photos but I haven’t It was pub quality at Celtic...
