What a wonderful find this beautiful little vegetarian/ vegan cafe was. We had spotted it a few times from the sea front and today was the perfect time to pop in and see what there was to offer and wow so glad we did, 3 of us all had the Lentil and Coconut broth with toasted sourdough which made this soup even more delicious. Accompanied by a tea, a green tea and a hot chocolate, we all enjoyed the food and drink and cannot wait to visit again. The staff were excellent very polite, helpful, friendly and welcoming, All of their bread, cakes, scones etc are freshly made on site in their own bakery which is amazing, taking home a few cakes to try which i have to say we're delicious, Something else that will make our next visit even better is that dogs are allowed in too. We are definitely going to make Birch our main go to cafe in Newcastle and I urge everyone give it a try whether you are vegan vegetarian or not this is a wonderful gem

We make a point of visiting this absolutely lovely coffee shop whenever we’re in Newcastle! Nice and bright atmosphere looking out on the water with a friendly, relaxed service. The menu is all vegetarian/vegan with gluten free options also available. We ordered the dark chocolate granola with coconut yogurt and the toasted sourdough, definitely the best sourdough we’ve had and worth trying! They have a second location in Castlewellan too that does coffee and cold items/pastries for breakfast. Highly recommend giving Birch a try next time you’re in the area!

Hands down the best coffee shop in Newcastle and easily in my top 3 coffee shops in the whole of Northern Ireland. I'm an absolute addict when it comes to their Protein Oats, in which I have probably spent enough money on them to fund a small country like Bosnia. (I have probably bought around 20-25 bowls of it since September 2024). The atmosphere is great with a city/hipster vibe, perfect for meeting with friends/family, working or reading. The staff are fantastic too and are very helpful and kind. All in all, this is a spot you must not skip over!

Came in today about 11am - menu so limited. Granola , chilli eggs and traybakes , toastier , soup is the height of the lunch menu. We were wanting brunch so opted for the chilli eggs - way to much rocket on top of it and weird taste.

Dogs everywhere in small cafe - not really my scene. I had to move to window seats as a large dog came in and as tables are right beside each other I don't want a dog starring up at me the whole time.

Coffee is good but unless you are wanting coffees I wouldn't call this place a cafe at all. Menu needs expanded on - clearly there is no chef and everything is prepared before. I don't go to a cafe for this reason..I could of just bought granola in a supermarket.

I went to till to pay for order - there was women in front who ordered coffees - no waiter came over to us to pay so I had to ask guy doing coffee's can we pay ? Why should we have to wait for the line of coffee orders for take away when we sat inside?

I got the receipt and they charge 20% vat on coffees - but not on food items - this is illegal and should be 20% off the total bill.

Door opens all the time - today was windy and cold day so when customers don't close it which is every 5 mins you are eating the eggs in...

Called into Newcastle to just take in some fresh air came across this place. Not knowing it was vegan and vegetarian we went inside the beautiful little bistro style restaurant. Having never had anything other than the normal fish and chips and seaside foods. we were absolutely thrilled with everything that we ordered. We had a combo of white bean soup with chilli oil and a sourdough caramelised onion and cheddar toasty. When I say this was thee most delicious meal we've had in years I mean it was fabulous. Every morsel was consumed every person loved what they ordered. I always seem to have to add a litte salt when we dine out (just my preference) it never even occurred to me about the salt or pepper... the saff were amazing service was fabulous and the bill ? All 5 of us ate for less than £50. This was absolute culinary magic and it has changed the way we see vegan and vegetarian restaurants we will definitely...
