Probably the best pub in England in my book and certainly a long standing one at that.If your staying in Mortehoe and even if your not you must visit this pub.
We always come back to this pub everytime we stay Devon and for very good reason.
Its in a fantastic location with plenty of seating and its needs it as this pub is always lively for good reason.
The beer choice is superb local ales amd like always on offer and never a bad beer in sight. I had a very enjoyable stout this holiday after watching Anchors Aweigh(another devon treasure). The service is always with a smile and prompt.
The icing of the cake for me is how freindly and welcoming this pub is.It has board games to play while your drinking which when you have kids is a godsend.Luckily our kids are still of the age where they find enjoyment in this i love that board games are being kept alive in this setting.
The Chichester arms is a pub done right in a perfect setting one day i hope to retire and spend out my days in this part of the world and visit this pub as often as i can.
Keep doing what you are doing as other pubs could learn from...
Read moreWe had a great visit back in early February. When all the other pubs were closed this pub we spotted opened at 12pm. We are relatively local (30 minutes away) and fancied a sea view walk then dinner in a Mortehoe Pub. From the moment we walked into the pub we were greeted with a friendly welcome. As someone who has dietary requirements it was refreshing that the menu was marked as to what had gluten. I asked about whether the burger in a bun with chips could be done gluten free as it did not say, yes they said the bun can be gluten free and the burger is made in house by the chief so no gluten. I have to say the burger was one of the best I have tasted. Both meals were spot on. They even had dog treats on the bar for doggy visitors (small charge for these). I bought a bag of treats for our dog and they went down very well. Thanks you Chichester Arms ,...
Read moreNot great actually! I've been coming here for years, and years, and years.. This place used to be epic for food: home-cooked, specials-led, value-driven, taste-sensation food! It's changed hands again and again and the charm has definitely worn off! The menu doesn't seem to have changed in recent times - the specials are still available and may be spectacular; but the rest of the menu hits home like chain-pub pub-grub, not as good as you'd like but it fills you up; only, they sell it at premium, quality food prices that North Devon likes to charge! The drinks are good. The food isn't great. Not sure we'd eat there again. A quick pit stop for a cider, perfect, other than that, done! 4.5 stars it isn't! I wonder what people expect while on their hols...
