During our week away. We decided on our last evening we would go for a nice meal out as a family.. 5 adults, a 4 year old & a 9 month baby... this was not the place for a "nice meal".

Sat down in the "ship themed" pub, Cool looking, parking was poor but a short walk from a public car park which was FREE due to visiting after 6pm.

Entered, Booked a table on the phone prior to arrival (which it appeared they hadn't actually reserved one but luckily we got a nice round table)

Ordered drinks which was £27 (1 which was a coke and 1 was a Fruit shoot so slightly pricey!!)

Then onto the food menu, Where it went wrong.. Not too much choice on the food menu which was not ideal but we all managed to find something to eat, The specials board had 1 burger on it which had 4x Patties and was over £20...

Ordered £81.40 and waited over an hour for it to partially arrive, they brought over the first fish and chips which let's face it isn't a particularly difficult meal to prep. Brings it out... on its own, No tartar sauce they replaced it with Sweet Chilli sauce.. no garden peas changed to mushy peas.. then brought over dish 2...

A beef burger which they brought over a VEGGIE burger which we weren't told about and he walked away...

Complained after waiting 15 minutes for the other dishes to NOT arrive, He took the dishes back and explained they were out of burger so asked what dish to replace with..

Came back approximately 15 minutes later again, To ask for the petty £2 extra for a dish my sister didn't even want... after waiting for so long and having 2 dishes brought out which we didn't order we decided to ask for our money back and leave... by this time my 4 year old was ravenous and the baby was unsettled due to approaching the soon bed time...

No argument for the refund but the clueless bar staff didn't know how to issue it on the till point.. Phoned a manager for the pin, whilst waiting for this HALF OF THE MEALS ARRIVED.. TOM then States to the manager he has no idea why we wanted a refund and stated it was all going OK 20 minutes prior, He was rude, Obnoxious and has poor customer service skills

Claims I was "kicking off" because my hand slapped on the bar in frustration whilst I was stood with my 9 mouth baby and a 4 year old who was very hungry..

Argument about the refund and them taking soo long occurred and the bar staff with his curly hair starts to threaten to NOT REFUND ME...

Eventually got the refund issued by the younger chap and the curly haired guy goes around to the bar to start slandering us to other punters... absolutely disgusting service, Instead of pirate themed they should try a clown theme, it may me more...

Ship aground or should I say shit aground really disappointed me honestly this place deserved zero stars but unfortunately that is not possible I ordered my food as normal and I received a very arrogant and rude tone from the bar men and slamming drinks on to the bar and spilling drinks making the bar wet and dirty but anyways my main course arrived and it tasted good but my food poisoning two days after wasn’t great next I went down to the bar to order my children some water but then the answer I got back was “sorry we have no water” I’m sorry but what place has no water there is a thing called a tap, I said to the bar men that it was “disappointing and I did not appreciate there service” in a sensible matter , then the bar men snitched to the owner about what I said and the owner came up to my family and started accusing us of false accusations and abuse so I kindly said “ can we talk somewhere else so my family can enjoy there dinner”and he rudely refused to do so he rudely asked us to leave and accused us for not paying which I clearly did so but I still paid as I did not want to cause a problem the owner seemed drunk and unprofessional so we started to leave but it took us a while as we had baby’s with us and we were a large group as we were leaving the owner came up to us and told us we needed to leave now so let me tell you now save yourself some time and visit some place better because the exit is the best place in that pub...

I’ve been to the ship many times in the past before it had been re done, food used to good, amazing pizza! I haven’t been for a while as the pub near by became our go too. Thought I’d give the ship a try for nostalgia but when I went in it wasn’t the same jolly vibe (obviously it’d been a couple years won’t be exactly the same) the staff seemed very young and nice but when I asked if they knew if their vegetable burger was vegan (they had no symbols stating what was vegan which is fine but a little out of date) they had one vegan option so I just wondered if the vegetarian burger was vegan, the server said ‘I’m not sure probably best not to go with it’ after that I saw an allergen sheet on the wall behind the bar they could’ve checked them selves. Maybe the server was new but I have worked in multiple restaurants/ bars myself and all staff would double check with the manger or kitchen. Second thing… there was a hair in my food. I expected a manger to come over and apologise or a server to ask if we wanted a refund or a drink or another plate made but when we told them they did apologise awkwardly and ask can I get you anything else but the server who asked also didn’t seem like they knew what to do so I said ‘don’t worry about it’. All in all I think the staff need some better training on how to deal with certain situations and maybe even be a bit...

We ate here on a surprisingly quiet Saturday lunchtime in October 2025. Yes, the weather was a bit windy but we have eaten here many times and never seen it so quiet. We enjoyed the food and sat at table 14 inside which afforded a view across gardens to the sea in the distance (see photo). We enjoyed the lasagne and particularly the ploughman’s. Short walk across 2 fields to Twitchen House Holiday Park and just a few minutes detour from Morte Point and the coast path. Definitely recommended

I think that this pub, in common with a lot of others down here, have inevitably had to cut down in terms of food quality. I would hastily add that I had some really good meals here but I've noticed, here and elsewhere, that the beef is a lesser quality than usual. I had the rump steak, see photo, where everything was really good apart from the steak which had a lot of gristle and fat. Luckily I have a dog. Nice friendly inn. Dog friendly and in a gorgeous area.
