I been last night with family for my dad’s 68 birthday and we live locally so I thought it would have been nice going somewhere local. We been sat down straight away and then completely forgotten. We had our drink after 30min sitting down on the table after having to chase the staff, apparently they had some mixed up with the tickets. I would have understood if the place was packed but they only had 3/4 tables and they had at least 3 people waiting on and nearly everyone was finished too.The table of 2 on the other side apparently been waiting long time as well as they were chasing impatiently their desserts too. We ordered wine, they did not opened properly and they got the cork inside and they still asked if we wanted it, that was hilarious. We had to call the than the waiter 10 minutes later to order our meal. Coming to the food it was good and arrived in reasonable time so I can’t blame the chefs. The other thing we had our small children and obviously they were hungry so waiting all that time did not help. The impression we had is the lack of training on those guys which it seems they never been working in hospitality before which is not really justifiable as someone in charge should be there monitoring the situation on a Friday night . We asked for glass of wine which never arrived (it has been put on the bill and than taken out after my mother notify the team member). We notified the staff about our disappointment but no action have been taken only an apology as nothing happened. We paid the bill in full, over £200. I don’t think...
Read moreThe Peacock at Owler Bar is one of those rare places where everything simply comes together perfectly – from the warm welcome to the final bite of food. From the moment my dad and I walked in, we were struck by the inviting atmosphere. The interior is beautifully designed, with a balance of modern comfort and classic character. The old wooden beams and frames give the restaurant a timeless feel, while the décor and lighting create a warm, relaxed environment that makes you instantly settle in. Service throughout our visit was outstanding – attentive without being intrusive. Staff clearly takes pride in what they do, and it shows in the small details. Plates arrived hot (a simple touch but often overlooked), the cutlery and diner set were elegant, and everything felt thoughtfully presented. For our meal, we opted for the 10oz sirloin steaks, and they did not disappoint. Each steak was cooked exactly as requested, tender and full of flavour. The triple-cooked chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, while the grilled Portobello mushroom with smoked paprika rarebit added a unique twist that elevated the dish. The roasted vine tomato was the perfect fresh balance alongside the richness of the meat. Overall, The Peacock delivers phenomenal food, top-notch service, and an ambience that makes you want to linger. It’s clear why it’s a favourite – a restaurant where both quality and care shine through in every detail. Big thank you to Anya for...
Read moreVisited last Thursday after hearing that it had been refurbished and under new ownership. What an improvement!!! There is still a bar area, which is dog friendly and serves food. However, we went through to the dining side. It is beautifully decorated and nicely spaced tables. Our waiter for the evening was a very friendly and polite man called James. He knew when to leave myself and my friend to chat, and when to ask if we needed anything. He gave us some assistance with the menu and recommend a very delicious dessert. Neither of us had a starter, as we already had our eyes on the desserts. But after much deliberating ( I could have eaten anything listed, they all sounded yummy) I settled on the crown of pheasant with blackberry sauce and dauphinoise potatoes. My friend chose the noodles with fillet steak. She was asked by James how she liked her steak cooked. We both tried each other's food 😋 ( we're good friends) and they were delicious. And as we were both driving we didn't choose wine. There is a good selection of drinks to choose from including local ales. After a suitable break we opted for desserts. I had the white chocolate and freeze dried raspberry tirimisu which was quirkily served in a kilner jar, and my friend chose a pineapple and ginger crumble. Again both were delicious and were a suitable size. Not over-faced nor tiny. Altogether, a delightful evening and we agreed that we would both return ASAP ... I would...
