With a trickle of chimney smoke escaping the open log fire, The Albert is a local pub inviting you in on a cold winters evening. Recently reopened with a new publican, the interior has been made warm and inviting, new decor and carpets throughout, making the best of the previous incarnation which on reflection had definitely seen better days.
Entering to the same central bar, now sporting new pumps by Brooklyn and Beavertown Breweryâs, The Alberts craft beer selection sits well amongst other local options, whilst still offering the standard staples. This however, is certainly not a âFostersâ pub, with bottled beers from Brewdog, Wadsworth and Sharps as well as some people unfamiliar temptations from around the world. If you like your Cider, Herefords Bad Apple runs on tap, backed up with some Bulmers by the bottle with hopefully more to come as the landlord looks to expand.
The Albert also holds one of the better Gin collections in the town, with plenty on offer including a good selection of Whitley Neil, Tanqueray and evening Hitchinâs own Honey Gin! Alternatively, if all your looking for a a decent coffee, Illy is served daily, with the option of cake! âïžđ°
I visited the pub on a Saturday afternoon shortly after Christmas and witnessed a steady flow of locals through the door, popping in for one or two before going about their day. Keen to open before Christmas, the new landlord has exciting plans going into 2020, with the rebuild of an existing outbuilding for the installation of a kitchen, new menu and reconstruction of the beer garden and surrounding footprint. For the meantime, Cheese Toasties are a small offering from behind the bar, made daily to order. đ„Ș
With more to come, The Albert looks to have started well in Hitchin. As a local, I look forward to coming back, especially after a long haul back from London. Handy itâs a stones throw from the rail station, so in the summer, the beer garden will be a must!
If your passing the door, itâs worth going in. Youâll always get a warm...

I had the plant based cheeseburger, my kids had a bacon cheeseburger, the food was amazing, mine was so good I had to check they hadn't cooked me a meat burger by mistake..lol the service was excellent as we only waited around 10 minutes for our food, the drinks were ice cold and served straight away and the prices are very affordable, The Albert Inn is a hidden little gem in Hitchin, we will be back again.. Oh and I highly recommend the waffles with ice cream, white chocolate sauce and maple syrup, if you have room after your meal, they were Banging!!! Thank you for an...
Read moreHaven't been here in a number of years and was very impressed how it is today.
I had intended to walk straight past but was intrigued by the Kylie Minogue/Club Bangers tribute act blaring out on a Saturday afternoon (provided by the wonderful Becky Briar Rouge, I hope I have that correct).
The ambiance for such a time of day was absolutely fantastic with everyone there seemingly having a good time. The cider (Inch's) and numerous cocktails (Negronis) I had were spot on. The staff were attentive and working very hard throughout the afternoon, my biggest compliments go to them.
I didn't partake so can't comment on the food side but apparently they have a bottomless brunch every Saturday; I'm sure the necking prosecco aspect will satiate many people's appetites.
Great drink. Great entertainment. Great atmosphere and excellent staff. Well worth...
