Costa Coffee — Restaurant in North Tyneside

My wife went inside while I sat at a table outside, I'm 72 and was exhausted after walking up from our boat in the marina.( we had just arrived that morning) After being sat outside for almost 40 minutes I was cold and decided to sit inside and see why it was taking so long. It was obvious they were quite busty but instead of appologising and saying that , ( which i would have accepted) the young girl behind the counter was quite rude asking me if I expected table service outside not realising my wife had been in the que all this time ,she totally denied that I had been waiting so long, or even at all, placed my coffee on the counter and said " have a nice day" ( i was until I met her) she took the meaning of condecending to a new level, So unprofessional ,centainly not front of house material ..Requires more training. Almost spoilt...

I ordered a coffee initially and then asked to hear what decaf hot drinks there were for my partner. The staff member said "anything that you want". I looked to my partner as she could hear the conversation and she asked for an Earl Grey. The woman rudely addressed my partner to say "thats tea, we only do decaf coffee". My partner and I looked at each other confused and she said "he asked what decaf coffees". I replied saying "no I said hot drink" as my partner also said "he said hot drink". The woman was very rude and aggressively spoke to my partner to say "well it sounded like coffee. We only do regular tea". My partner stopped the woman in her rant to say a decaf tea was fine. There was no apology afterwards or for her to say she misunderstood. The woman was probably in her 40s, fairly slim and thin eyebrows....

I completely understand that we need to comply with current Covid guidelines, which my friend and I were doing but the staff in the Royal Quays branch of Costa are at the point of being aggressive when they approach all customers that walk through the door. I was absolutely shocked at the way they treat customers, especially the male bearded member of staff. They could all do with some instruction on general courtesy and manners, especially to the elderly! Absolute disgrace how they spoke to an elderly couple!! I will not be going back to that branch and advise others to...
