Called in with my wife on Saturday afternoon, before heading for the Amsterdam Ferry, and had two main meals, and enjoyed it so much, we called back in on the Monday arriving back off the ferry, to have our breakfast. On Saturday we were well looked after by Robbie, as well as Joanne and Scott, and the food was great - in fact I honestly found my burger to be one of the juiciest and most nicely cooked I have had anywhere in ages, and my wife loved her Gammon Steak too. On the Monday morning Abby and Andrew looked after us, and gave us all the info we needed for our Unlimited Breakfast, which was much needed (and well enjoyed) after a weekend away in Amsterdam. All in all, great food, and great service and staff on both days, and we'll be back again for sure next time we are on the Ferry - or even just to go out for a meal!

Was determined to give this place 1 star after the first night. Walked in one evening starving, so I ordered a burger which took 40 minutes to arrive and it was tiny. I could have cried, but they I decided to inhale said burger in about 4 minutes because otherwise my stomach would have digested itself from the waiting. Second night was much better. Service was a lot quicker, only took 16 minutes, had a mixed grill, much better size and proportions. Apart from the extreme amount of salt they put in the gammon, it was demonstrably fine. Staff service on both nights was fine, they redeem this review from one star to three, but sadly it's nowhere near a 5 star place.

Was booked for a Sunday carvery. I decided not to have the tomato soup so can't comment on that. The soup bowls need drying. They were all wet. There was enough choice on the carvery. The meats on choice were fine. Turkey, ham and beef. But the only let down was the roast potatoes. They tasted stale or old. Very dry and I can only assume not peeled from potatoes but from bulk frozen. Can I advise that potatoes should be fresh and peel and cut them. Not from a bag of frozen ones. The staff were pleasant enough and the outlay is comfortable.

Wish I'd read these reviews before going....if I had of I would have went somewhere else.

I took my son here on a Friday night before going bowling and it was fairly empty. We found a table and sat down and then ordered our food at the bar. The server continued to take our order and was interrupted by a colleague who proceeded to tell him he shouldn't be on that till and I think this may have put him off as he fumbled around and discounted change.

We sat at our table and waited for 40mins for our meal and it came before our drinks. I did ask a server if I should have collected these at the bar when I ordered but he said he'd bring them over. I then watched him serve two more tables and we had finished our meal already. After asking if there was any chance of getting my son's drink at least, I was given a fruit shoot 10mins later.

Asides from the poor service. The meal was nothing to shout about. I had the new Yorker and came with a slice of fat, which I think was intended to resemble bacon. The chips we're hard and the odd few almost raw in middle. My son had a burger From the kids menu and looked alright..if anything dry.

We ordered our desserts when we first ordered and they came soon after our plates were taken. These were ok but couldn't rescue this poor meal.

The toilet facilities were unclean and tiny and the tables and chairs could do with renewing at some point. The same goes for cutlery and glasses.

I wouldn't recommend this venue at all. I know you get what you pay for, But I didn't pay for a uncomfortable wait and a poor meal. I'd hate to visit here...

We arrived at 5.15 having booked a table. They didn't have any tables ready and the pub had about 50 empty tables. A staff member explained to the manager they hadn't cleaned any tables yet. When we got seated we were told strictly table service only and not to go to the bar. This would have been fine but 45 minutes later we still hadn't had our order taken so I had to go to the bar. It seems 3 other tables felt the same as there was a queue at bar. We got our drinks and ordered food. Again an hour went by and nobody came to our table. I had to go back to the bar for more drinks and to ask where our food was. I was told it would be another 30 minutes. In total we waited 1 our 45 minutes for our food. In a chain pub who serves ready meals. When the food did arrive the waitress forgot the knives and forks and didn't provide us with napkins. We had to go back to the bar again to request these. And finally to top it off they had no coleslaw to accompany the burgers which I wasn't told when ordering and nobody apologised for. I wasn't offered another side as a replacement either. The pub wasn't full at all and there were approx 10 staff in, I have no idea why the service was so bad. Won't be going back there. I will say however there was an older lady compared to the rest of the 18 year old staff who was very polite and reasonable. I can't remember her name or would have loved to give her...

SLOW SERVICE / POOR INCOMPLETE MEAL When we visited the pub it wasn't particularly busy, welcome was pleasant and we were quickly taken to a seat. Nice enough decor but seats and carpet had food stains over them.

We selected our meals and placed the order at the bar. After waiting 30 minutes we checked whether they had lost our order but they said there was a delay (no reason given) they checked in the kitchen and said ours was next.

Meanwhile a family of 4 who came in 30 minutes after us had their order delivered and the couple sitting next to us who had nfinished their meal had to wait 40 minutes for their pre ordered puddings!

Another 30 minutes later our meal arrived (1 hour after we ordered it), however we had to return one as it was totally unacceptable. My daughter odered the chicken flatbread, when it arrived it conistsed of 2 small triangles of flatbread, 2 bits of lettuce, 2 slices of tomato, 3 small overcooked strips of chicken but no mozzarella and no bacon decribed in the menu.

We got the usual apologies, the usual do you want another (as if - we requested a refund!!) we were also offered complimentary puddings which we declined the as we suspected this would also take an hour to come!

We frequently use the Brewers Fare at the Metro Centre and have had no problems but we are unlikely to retiurn to the Royal...
