Monkseaton Arms — Restaurant in North Tyneside

Usually like this place for a beer or two but very disappointed by the food upon returning after lockdown. Problems started when I had to ask three times for menus which were eventually provided.

Firstly told no kids burger buns available and no adult chicken skewers because of Covid??? When the food arrived my kids corn on the cob was clay cold and looked like cardboard (kids couldn't eat it). My wing starter had a couple of massive black hairs on it too. Then came main course... my rare steak was like leather not pink at all, scampi like dry lumpsor reheated mush. Wife's katsu chicken wasnt much better either being massively over cooked and dry as a bone.

No sauces offered or available for main course. Kids meal deal not offered despite asking if we had to order it all as one or could order desert after.

It's a standard chain pub. Staff are friendly, not great for the beer enthusiast. Edit ( couldn't see how to reply) This in response to the very open reply the review got. I've thought about my time there some more and changed my rating. The place is very well presented and the staff were really friendly. Two things I value highly. Now to the beer enthusiast comment. At the time of my visit there was not a great selection of craft beer, or microbrewery beers. I tend to look for a broad choice of beer, and I didn't find it. The beer I had was well kept and nicely poured. So my comment was really about the available choice. I would suggest carrying some bottles or cans from some of the local breweries in the area. If you're looking for a friendly, inviting pub with delicious food, and a wonderful ambiance, then look no farther than Monkseaton Arms. With good reason, this bar on Monkseaton Front street has grown to be a local favourite and I am not surprised why, the staff is wonderful and I'd like to give a big shoutout to Lyla and Patrick, some of the most warm and welcoming bartenders I have ever had the experience to deal with, they made my visit to the pub an even better experience than I imagined going in for the first time, if I could I would give this pub a 6/5 just...
