The location is fantastic and the building is iconically of its period. It’s spacious and airy with great views. Unfortunately the food is horrendous - stuck in the 1970s synthetic junk era. The coffee, sold as lattes etc is nothing of the sort, just very watery and very weak with very little milk. Some members of staff are rude and aggressive and seem to resent being questioned about anything and having to serve anybody. I imagine that’s why the food and drinks are so inexcusably bad. It could be an amazing business and big attraction if it had trained willing staff and a small menu of real food, even easy items like chips and pies and sandwiches and cakes and teas and coffees if they were of edible quality. The tiny little art gallery cafe at the back of it doesn’t have the views but it contrasts hugely in a very small menu of excellent quality food and drinks and service. Whoever owns the Rendezvous needs to understand that the way it is being run defeats what could be an astounding business. Perhaps it’s just as well though, as if it was decent, in that location it would...

Absolutely disgusting. Bought an icecream cone and was slightly cold outside so thought it would be nice to sit in. Not only was the atmosphere inside rundown enough already however, a blonde woman with curly hair told us to “leave unless we had a tub”with no explanation to why. Bare in mind no where on the outside or inside on the building does it state that we needed to leave because of this. As I was getting up to leave, was told again. This time with a boycotting tone and a snarky grin. A woman had came up to a family member (who I could not leave without) and was talking about our dog. Bare in mind it had not even been 2 minutes and at that point the blonde lady stated “I need you out”. When I exclaimed that I needed to wait for my family member she then said to just “wait outside then”. After leaving, we asked management for her name and had no good response other than “that’s not in her nature” and that the manager “was management”. Disgusting way that they treat customers when they dont display the rules...

Messed up our order for drinks, when I asked someone if they would check she 'barked' back at me about orders being made up in a queue system , not asking how long we had been waiting. She was rude and aggressive. Turns out they had forgotten to make out drinks yet no apology from this gruff stressed out woman, who apparently was the owner. Then waited ages again so I went to cancel the order when miraculously they appeared. We took them in take away cups in the end having been in there way over 25 minutes between order and collection . The blonde lady who had taken our order apologised and was lovely. The other woman didn't ever, even when it was acknowledged that the order had been forgotten. Also yappy dog in the corner was irritating Thankfully our company was good but I certainly wouldn't rush back to give that woman any more business. Will be sticking to the art cafe coffee shop at the back in future where the customer service is way better than...

Perhaps it’s just as well though, as if it was decent, in that location it would be inundated.

My favourite place in Whitley Bay. Even though it pretty much hasn't changed in decades, that sort of adds to the charm of this cafe. You can sit and enjoy the amazing views along the prom and beach from here which is very welcome on a cold or rainy day. We have spoke to loads of total strangers in here when we stroke their dogs. Everyone who goes in seem really friendly and laid back. It's really nice it's a dog friendly cafe. They have started putting tables outside which is lovely

A dog friendly cafe' on the seaside walk in Whitley Bay with a fascinating retro feel about it. Lots of people inside with their loyal companions having hot drinks and spending time together. It was a pleasure to stop by for a cup of tea and a cheeky sandwich and be surrounded by families, children and dogs sharing the same space. Lovely Whitley Bay and its people. If you like people photography here you have some valuable opportunities to take some brilliant shots too....
