We picked this hotel as a place to stay because it is so close to the NEC (about 10 minutes outside peak times), and for this it was ideal. Unfortunately, the hotel itself left much to be desired. The night we arrived was "pie night", which tempted us. I had the steak and kidney, which was obviously made with top quality meat, but the gravy it contained reduced it to a very ordinary pie. My wife chose the chicken and ham, which again was made from good ingredients, but the pie filling was contained in a very watery liquid, which was unappetising. On the following night, my wife chose pork loin, which was overcooked to the point that it was inedible, and that was returned. I had a mixed grill, which was also overcooked, and I can only describe it as chewy. The breakfasts were slightly better, but were no better than average. The furnishings of the hotel were in dire need of renovation, with fake leather chairs from which the outer covering had long ago worn away, and tables with the corners knocked off. Our room was at the highest point of the building (being apparently 1of 7), and was desperately in need of some renovation. There was no lighting at one end of the room, the bathroom had no basin plug, and the handsoap dispensers were empty throughout our 3 days there. However, the worst thing was the mirror, which consisted of a frameless piece of mirror glass about 4 feet by 1 foot, which was loosely resting against the wall at an angle of about 60 degrees. It was useless as a mirror, but presented a significant safety hazard. I did notice that at least 2 other rooms had similar arrangements for their mirrors, so it appears that necessary maintenance remains undone. The bar always seemed to be busy, and most of the rooms were occupied during our stay, so the business should be capable of supporting the cost of some improvements. To the owners of thee business I would say, "Invest in some upgrades." For our next trip to the NEC, we shall definitely find another...

As I was attending Crufts dog show at the NEC in Birmingham I needed somewhere nearby to stay. |The George And Dragon in Coleshill was competitively priced and had free parking so seemed ideal.|I booked two nights and was given a room with a double bed and a single.|It had a large shower cubicle in the bathroom and the shower worked well. |The bedroom was big but headroom was a little compromised by the sloping ceiling. It didn't affect my use of the double bed though.|There were plenty of tea and coffee sachets by the kettle.|A good point, breakfast was served from 06:45 a.m on Sunday. This was very handy as I had an early start and needed to be at my destination by eight.|Breakfast was included in my stay and I had a decent cooked breakfast both mornings. This is served in the pub bar rather than their restaurant.|I ate two evening meals here. I had fish and chips one night in the restaurant and chicken curry the night after in the bar as the restaurant was packed it being Mothering Sunday.|No complaints with the food. I'd describe it as standard pub fare and not too expensive.|The pub has a large car park at the rear so the description of free parking is accurate.|The staff were polite and helpful.|After making my booking I read some negative reviews on here and that made me wonder if I'd made a mistake? My worries weren't borne out and I was happy with my stay. |I'd use the George And Dragon again.|I felt the price I paid was fair for what I received in terms of...

We managed to get a family room and it was lovely and spacious with a good view. It's really hot and so we were very glad to be able to open both sides of the window. The breakfast was amazing. There were cereals and juices on the bar but you could get a full English, cooked to order. We had dinner in the restaurant and the chef actually came out to hear our thoughts on the minted lamb chops. I've never had such a big piece of lamb before. Parking was free and plentiful. There was a lot of outdoor seating, which is great when the weather is hot. The pub has a lot of old features. I especially like the wooden fireplace in the dining area, which was hidden away behind boards and only discovered when they added the high ceilinged conservatory. It's 10 mins away from the NEC and very easy to find, which was great for us.

I have eaten here the past 15 years and without fail it is by far the nicest steak I have. It's cooked to my perfection, not fatty, lovely cuts of steak. The chips, sides and sauces are just as nice, the curry sauce is my favourite. The price is very fair for the meal you get, it a decent size portion, I always leave feeling fulfilled and happy. I am a big steak fan and personally rate this over Miller and Carter and more named established restaurants. It has a nice beer garden and staff are friendly enough. I highly recommend trying here, they have a great menu if steak isn't your thing, the fish and chips is a great dish too. I have taken many friends and colleagues here and they equally enjoy it as much as I do and not all have ordered the steak and have tried other dishes.

Nice pub but the service was dreadful. The car park is like driving on the surface of the moon, if you don't have good ground clearance you might bottom out. For some reason they still think we are in lockdown so you can't go to the bar and are shown to a table we ordered drinks on entry. We waited 10 minutes for drinks then asked where they were. Meantime a regular came in and got served straight away. After nearly half an hour and 2 more requests for drinks we were served. Can't see me going back any time soon sadly.
