Arrived with family for Sunday lunch and found the pub and restaurant area to be very quiet, quite unexpected for a Sunday lunchtime session. Despite this we were warned by a rather anxious-sounding member of staff that there would be a delay for food, of about 30 minutes, because they were so busy. This seemed odd as I could only see one couple eating; most tables were empty. A thirty minute wait, however, didn’t seem unreasonable so we ordered. Our group of 7 ordered one child’s meal, four roast dinners and two “slow-cooked chicken” and it was the chicken that gave us real concern. When the food arrived, fifty minutes after it had been ordered, every meal was lukewarm but the slow-cooked chicken was pale in colour and one was actually cold at the centre. When this was brought to the attention of the waiting staff, a manager appeared and said she couldn’t understand why it would be cold because it has “been in the oven for 15 minutes.” This confused us as it was described as a slow-cooked chicken, but 15 minutes isn’t adequate to warm food through, let alone roast it. They offered to take it away and prepare another, but we weren’t prepared to take the risk, as we were not even convinced that the chicken had been roasted in the first place. It looked as though it had been boiled or even microwaved. Alternative meals were ordered but there was something suspect about a rasher of bacon that came with a burger meal; it also seemed to have been boiled or microwaved. In short, the food was awful and the service was embarrassing. They had offered 20% off the bill after the cold chicken episode, but we had lost all confidence in The Coleshill Hotel by this time. We waited a long time for dessert and very nearly walked out before it arrived. When we eventually left the restaurant there were no staff around, or customers for that matter, no one to talk to about our experience, or to even acknowledge that we were leaving. This was an awkward experience from start to finish and I worry about the standard of food preparation here. I definitely wouldn’t recommend The Coleshill Hotel to anyone, which is a pity because the building is...
Read moreI booked this hotel for my Birthday in mid January 2015. I got it as a part of a January sale but trust me, this hotel was worth full price.
When we arrived on the evening of 17th Jan unfortunately the hotel had encountered a few problems. There was a leak from the bath of one of the rooms so water was leaking in to the restaurant below. They warned us of no running water when we checked in but it didn't effect me as as we'd been out all day, so only wanted to have some food and relax anyway.
It also meant when we went for food there were a few tables that were out of use as there was water dripping from the ceiling. buckets were out and tables had been moved out of the way. Some people (like locals who were there for food, or people who had checked in to get showered and go out for functions) were annoyed by this, but I know things like this can happen, and they've just got to be dealt with.
Water was back on in no time at all, and the staff were dealing with the situation very well. In fact all weekend the staff were very approachable and in high spirits. I haven't had that often from any place of work.
As well as this night we also ate in the restaurant for breakfasts and a second evening meal - and each time the food was fantastic. Flavours was great and everything was cooked to perfection.
To the room - it was very clean and well maintained. Even though we put a "Do not disturb" sign on the door on the day we weren't in the hotel - clean towels were left outside and were waiting for us when we got back. The bed was very comfy and facilities were great.
Coleshill is not a place that I'd thought of to go to before, and it was only due to the January sale that I went there in the first place, but thanks to the hotel and the staff I would definitely consider going there again, and have already recommended it to friends. Everyone I met in the town was very...
Read moreWhere to start...... first impressions were very good. Lovely looking boutique type rooms...... then when you actually looked, OMG!!!! The dirt & dust was awful. I refused to use the shower because it was so filthy & the head was actually black!!!! The grime round the bath was awful. One of the curtains was actually shut & trapped in the window. There was a massive cobweb at the top of the window frame blowing in the draft that was created by the broken window!!! The sash was actually broken! On the upside the bed was comfortable, on the downside because the window was broken, this didn't help with the noise from the street! Some of the light bulbs were broken & the dust on the lamps was thick!! My in-laws had the room down stairs & they only had 1 towel between the 2 of them. Then for the breakfast........ What can I say...... We waited & waited & waited!!!! No juice in the help yourself station, no glasses only plastic!! No coffee!!! We eventually got served, 4 of us ordered, food came out 3 first then mine eventually came when the others in my party has nearly finished!! Went down stairs to use the toilet & 2 out of the 3 toilets had had the seats ripped off!!!! The very polite cleaner said it had happened the night before!!!! My husband complained to the manager who was extremely apologetic & incredibly professional throughout. He was a real credit, he had only been in post a few weeks & has obviously been given the unenviable task of trying to fix the place!!!! Massive job in his hands, but took all comments on-board & was very fare with us. Not sure if well ever go back but I wish him well in the uphill task he has ahead of him!!!! (To that note, the young assistant manager was incredibly helpful & polite too, an...
