1st of all i have been here twice. On a Friday evening and Saturday Evening 8 days later. The 1st occasion it was good, i ordered the New york ribs, corn on cob and Marco's Tiramisu. The portions were great, and all food cooked as it should be. The 2nd visit however was a different nature.... I called to book, but they were full. I managed to get a table next to the bar though. I was asked to pay for my meal and drinks as i ordered. This put me off and made me feel uncomfortable as its not what you do in a restaurant, but i paid. Big Mistake. I had ordered the exact same meal as above. As soon as the waiter put my main down i instantly spotted that the ribs were half the size. I sent waiter went to ask Chef... He returned saying they are always that size.... Corn on the cob was cold, after the third bite and cold water coming out of the corn (even though they have clearly been heated on a grill). These were taken away to be replaced (so i assumed) they returned 2 mins later.. as soon as the waiter put them down i noticed there were 3 bite marks taken out... It was the same piece. Microwaved. Next it was the Tiramisu's turn... Same bowl as the week previous, half the portion size. It looked totally different too.... "Marco's take on tiramisu" is now served different depending on the day, not exactly Marco's signature dish then ? This time i asked for a manager, who, after a dispute, took the bowl away only to return to tell me that thats how it's served, i'll have to have a refund. I was fuming now as you can imagine... Single dad, boys went to mums, spur of moment Good eating turned to: Half the portion size and cold, with no sweet. This was not going good... 2 mins later a waitress approached with a bowl containing the same portion size tiramisu, made the same way as when i ordered it the Friday night. As she placed it down, a waiter from the back came too and put the refund on the table ??? No-one knew what they were doing. So i got the manager over to prove i was right regarding the tiramisu. His excuse was Chef said thats how its served. The waitress apologised and said Chef had a go out the guy making them and showed him how. He was an absolute so and so and clearly lying. I was that angry, i finished my drink and tipped the refund money into the tiramisu and left it on the table. i went to make a complaint at the restaurant desk and was laughed at by Mutton dressed as lamb. She tried to guide me to the hotels reception to make a complaint, but i wanted their restaurant card where you leave your comments. These go direct to the restaurant manager, so i informed her where hers was. She handed me one which i filled in and gave to another (very nice) ass. manager who said this was all unacceptable and promised me a phone call from the top brass. 2 weeks later, with no phone call, here is my review. I would never set foot in that place again. I have since spoken to a friend who's son works there. He said all the veg etc comes pre skinned and sliced, No meat is fresh with there home made sauces etc. It's pre prepped and packaged. It's a glorified Mcdonalds. No 'Top chef's' etc. It certainly isn't fine dining either... You get nicely dressed up for the occasion whilst people wonder in in shorts, Baby's crying in pushchairs, loud laughing and joking... Because Hotel guest's use it too...
I have since, used the Cottage in Kegworth and i can say hands down and i know from speaking to the lovely owner too, that the quality of the food they serve smashes Marco's to bits. It's traditional fine dining, and the menu is so much better too. 4 courses of local produce for £20. And they also serve a'la Carte.
Avoid Marco's New York...
Read moreNot actually that great if I'm honest. The place is okay, but nothing particularly special. The service was friendly but pretty slow. Lots of people seemingly ambling around yawning or bored.
Had to remind the staff that I'd ordered a drink which came after fifteen minutes of ordering it.
I don't think the prices are bad, but I don't think the food is particularly great either. You can certainly get much better food within 5 minutes of this place. Pizza was covered in oil which was fairly unappetising. My burger and chips was okay. I've had much better for the same price. Desserts were clearly bought in, and the tiramasu portion was woeful. Five spoonfuls for £7.50 feels like a bit of a rip off. Not an ounce of espresso or liquer flavour either, and the fudge cake felt very microwaved with rock hard ice cream on top.
I appreciate this place is on the side of a hotel, and if I were a hotel guest with little idea of what else was available I'd go back in, but for me, this was a bit of a let down.
Oh, I'm usually the first person to offer a tip, but the automatic 10% added on to the price is a bit cheeky. It should be up to me to reward good food and...
Read moreSo disappointed! We were expecting Marco's usual high standards but had a really bad experience, so bad we left, something we have never done before anywhere. First... only cocktails at the bar at the weekend, the bar was empty, Guiness is off, shocking! and the only bitter is not great, surprising when Marco loves his ale! Next we are shown to a table very close to two men dining, the restaurant is half empty! Every other place I've been to recently has spread tables out and made efforts to keep diners safe. The £10 Eat out to help out special menu is nothing like the sample menu on the internet and didn't include your chip or sides. This didn't really surprise me, what do you expect for a tenner? When I told the manager I was not happy he really didn't care and made no attempt to move us or solve the problems. I can't believe his...
