Safehouse Café Bar — Restaurant in Northern Ireland

I rang and asked do they do take outs (Pizza). They said they do. I go in to order my take out and they say they don’t do takeout because the pizza doesn’t fit in the box. It only fits in if you’ve already eaten some of the pizza in house. I told them my neighbours who only live down the street from the establishment took out pizza on a Friday night before without eating in. She then goes on to give a complete different explanation for this, by saying it was maybe midweek when they did that. So which is it…is it they don’t do take outs because the pizza doesn’t fit in the box or is it they only do them during the week?? Are the boxes during the week a different size to the ones when I was looking to take out on a Saturday?? Very bizarre. I suspect they just didn’t want to bother making me one to go. I have enjoyed being in the Safehouse before, always enjoyed the pizza even though it could take an hour to arrive. Went in on Sunday to have a lunch around 130 and the place was dead...not what I was used to here before...and considering B and B across the street was queued out the door. So in my head I reckoned service would be quicker today etc. We both ordered Panini for a change from pizza, with the menu promising salad and crisps as a side. Picture shows what arrived...zzzzz...and lacking any salad. Now I think from memory this weighed in at £8.50, and I've had much better elsewhere. Summary - disappointed, dull below par. I don’t normally leave reviews, but my experience at this restaurant was unacceptable and needs to be shared. From the moment we arrived, the service was painfully slow , we waited over an hour for our food with no explanation or apology.

The staff seemed disinterested and unprofessional throughout, with visible hygiene issues that made the whole experience feel unsanitary. What was even more disturbing was the cold and dismissive attitude we received, especially toward a member of our group who is a person of colour. It felt targeted and deliberate, which is absolutely unacceptable in any setting let alone a place that serves the public.

This place has a long way to go in terms of both basic hospitality and human decency. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who values respectful,...
