Still good but used to be incredible!

A review I never thought I'd be writing lol

We used to be regulars here and literally obsessed with the place. Approximately 18 months to 2 years ago we were visiting at least once a week. Lol. I saw a photo on my memories just last week where I snapped the pic of my food and it reminded me of how incredible it used to be. We LOVED the salads, the picante fries and the pizzas of course.

Over the past year or more they have been offering less and less on their menu...no salads, no picante fries, no pizza specials or toastie specials and the special soup offerings aren't as amazing as they used to be.

Keeping in mind it's a family run business... if they need to do this to meet family or business needs that's understandable but some of it doesn't make much sense (particularly the picante fries.... literally the Campania fries with a different topping?) I know from speaking to others these were really popular. I know they have had members of staff leave etc but surely the fries could have been kept on the menu. Lol

We usually only get takeaway maybe once every 2 months now or grab a coffee and a bake which are good...but we get their bread still weekly which is great.

If the remainder of their now limited menu was up to the usual standards all the time and especially if the customer service was consistently even half decent...it would help in accepting the changes easier...

Visited last night to sit in for the first time in months...as we still do enjoy their pizzas, fries and gelato.

The pizzas were good but one in particular...the base was like tissue paper ..no exaggeration...I do like a thin base and I love their dough but this was ridiculous. The main issue last night and on several other occasions in the last 6 months was the service though. We were served by a female (small, glasses and short brown hair) I felt uncomfortable immediately when she came to our table to take our order as we have never received a smile, a hello or anything other than the absolute bare minimum from her in the last year...last night was no different. I asked about the kombucha on offer and she said 3 times I don't think we have many flavours,...no offer to check if this was the case or what flavours they did have so I left it at that and settled for water...To be honest...she actually looks like she hates being there every single time we've been served by her... despite us trying to joke or make conversation. It really puts a dampner on the whole experience...we paid 65.00 for dinner (3 pizzas, 1 fries and a gelato) that was good but not perfect..but the biggest disappointment was the service from this lady.

Most of the other staff are fine although noone is amazing at customer service but please either help this girl to provide better customer service or smile at least.

I actually hate to write this as there was a time it would have been our whole family's death row meal including our toddlers lol but it's been consistently slipping and the service is really hard to accept when paying these prices. Usually I would give this feedback verbally but I have done so to a lesser extent in the past and to be honest we don't visit there enough anymore to pass this on to someone in position.

I'll still support them as we live close by and it's the best bread, coffee etc in the area...I just hope with the further reductions in their service recently with the bread etc that they can maybe concentrate on their menu...

Two of us had a mouthwatering delicious meal at Scarpellos yesterday. The food is fantastic. We started with mac & cheese croquettes with salad garnish & a smoky red pepper sauce. After that we shared a No7 pizza.

I have eaten here before several times & the last pizza I had was delicious too so I think I can safely say all their pizzas are equally delicious. We shared a bowl of skin on skinny fries with our pizza they stayed crispy to the end not oily just lovely.

We finished our meal with an affogato for me which was gorgeous as usual & Sicilian lemon sorbet which is a revelation without doubt the best sorbet I have ever tasted so refreshing & zingy I think it deserves an award.

I also bought a sourdough bread to take home. The food & drinks are always fantastic. Lovely wines too.

Friendly & attentive staff. Be sure to reserve a table so as not to be disappointed. Everything lovely & clean. The grilled cheese sandwiches are also to die for. You can tell the ingredients for their food are top quality. Can't...

Unfortunately my experience has been ruined by the staff at the bakery section. Waiters and pizza chef staff are very nice however the staff working at the bakery have really stood below standard.

I have never seen such drama behind a counter, I asked if I could pick up a Too Good To Go Bag which I had ordered the day before. It was as if I had asked a personal question or for one of them to chop off a finger. “I don’t have time for this!” Is the response the waiter got who asked on my behalf, 3 staff members severely annoyed and really not bothered to help. Was informed by one of the more rude staff members that there wasn’t any today and to just leave it, it’ll be fine.

Just to iterate, I had to waste my fuel to get there and my time, they all knew they didn’t have the supplies for the bag yet they waited until after the collection time to cancel it. Not to mention how rude they ended up being.

Stay away from the bakery bit, if you’re going, go...

Excellent selection of house pizzas as well as a create your own option. Something a bit different, not just your usual "meatfeast", with the sourdough base being a perfect fit for the selection of pizzas. Garlic, rosemary and parmesan fries were unbelievable and definitely worth a try. Coffee was excellent and there was a fantastic selection of baked desserts. Finally, the meal was really affordable with a meal for 2 people costing just over £30. The only downside was service was a tad slow.

Didn't know about this place until stumbled across their Sourdough at the Green Cat Bakery. Went there for lunch and had a delicious Reuben sourdough toasted sandwich and a caramel brownie. Both were way above the standard at most places in Derry. We also got some white sourdough for takeaway. One thing I would suggest is to get another bread slicer that can slice thicker as the machine there cuts them too thinly for open tops like avocado and poached egg.
