We've always struggled to find authentic tasting Japanese food in the UK but this place really hit the spot! We were greeted by a super friendly member of staff and seated in a room with windows open along one side to let lots of nice fresh air in. The solid wood benches do become uncomfortable after a short while though, something that may be worth considering if you have a disability or movement issues. The lunch menu caters for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans, with plenty of options available should you want to mix and match things. We both ordered the bento box options. I'm allergic to peanuts and even though we were told there were no peanuts on the premises a note about it was added to my order anyway, which was a very nice touch. When the food arrived it was fresh and well presented, with plenty of variety. Both myself and my wife commented on how it took us right back to being in Japan, especially the miso soup and the pickles. Everything was well cooked and full of flavour, the sashimi being a particular highlight of mine. Lunch for 2 people including drinks cost £45 which I feel is very good for the quality of the food and the service you get. We will definitely be coming back here again.

The best place to park for Shiki is St Andrews car park in Duke street as its a simple walk up St Andrews St and Princess St to Shiki. We were fortunate to be in Norwich for the Tuesday Sushi night when there is a flat charge of £25 for the evening - with a £2 per 100gm surchage if you order too much. We started off with the Nigiri and the Maki and the only one that didnt excel was the boiled octopus which was a bit chewy. Our favourite was the salmon which was so fresh and melt in the mouth. We then moved on to the hot dishes from the kitchen, the star of which were the breaded prawns and the marinated chicken although the pork and the beef were also delicious. My least favoured was the tofu which was a bit too soft and the tempura vegetables which would have been better in smaller pieces. I had the Montepulciano to go with the food and it went really well with the seafood and the meat dishes. The service was excellent - helpful in explaining the dishes and attentive when we wanted to order more. We never had to wait too long for any of the dishes to arrive and it was excellent value for such delicious food.

I recently dined at Shiki Japanese restaurant and I was thoroughly impressed with my experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality from the staff who made me feel welcomed and comfortable. The service was top-notch and on par with what you would expect in Japan. The servers were knowledgeable about the menu and helped me select dishes that truly showcased the flavors and techniques of traditional Japanese cuisine. The food was nothing short of incredible. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. From the delicate sashimi to the perfectly cooked tempura, every bite was a delicious adventure. The flavors were bold and authentic, truly transporting me to the streets of Tokyo. Overall, my experience at Shiki Japanese restaurant was exceptional. The combination of amazing food and fantastic service made for a truly unforgettable dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a taste of authentic Japanese cuisine, it truly lives up to its reputation

My wife and I went as walk-ins, they were too busy to seat us so asked us to return in 45 mins and took our name. We arrived and they were extremely busy and seemed rushed, which is sometimes a worry. However, we were politely and promptly made welcome. We were a third into drinks when they took our order. We decided to share small plates and I'm glad we did! The food was nothing short of incredible!! There is something about asain food that is very difficult to replicate at home, my hypothesis is that the shape of the cuts is what changes the texture and taste. But in reality I cannot even get close to the perfection in my mouth that Shiki delivered! We had some incredible salads to start, lovely cucumber and full crisp leaves that were obviously grown locally. With our salad we had crispy aubergine; this looked raw and like it would taste terrible-actually one of the nicest parts of the whole experience, the aubergine was crispy and really delicate with a great seasoning. Something i would love to be able to cook at home because it was so delicious. Then, we had a pork and ginger dish with a seafood noodle dish. The pork was sliced incredibly thin and it was slightly sweet but with a depth of salty ginger flavours. Very morish. The seafood noodles came with squid, something my wife hates. However, I made her taste it having expressed how fresh and perfectly cooked it was. It had the texture of biting through something like a raw mushroom, it was so soft and tasty. She ate all of it! It was grilled and possibly boiled, but really was amazing. Then I had a platter of sushi. Oh my God!! The fish was so perfect, I love sushi, but really I have never tasted anything like this. It wasn't cold, but it wasn't warm either. I think sushi out of the fridge is too tough. This felt exactly like a delicately poached fish, but of course it was raw. I had many types of fish and they were all better than the last. The rice (not a fan of rice) was again amazing. Such a wonderfully soft texture that sat in my stomach with ease, no bulky carbohydrate feeling. Just a lovely bite and ideal quantity. My wife had salmon teriyaki and that was also really perfect, it was cooked to abosulute perfection and the sauce was just divine. But not overpowering the fish, so you could taste the salmon and its quality. If you like sushi then this is the place to go, it really is a treat. When you eat food that is made by someone who has knowledge and skill at this level, you know you could never achieve at home, then it is always a pleasure beyond measure. It was really reasonably priced too, I think we had 3 plates each and 2 drinks and it was about 75 quid. Honestly I would have paid double. So it's definitely worth a try. Yo sushi is like tescos own compared, and I like...

Disappointing Experience with Shiki: Poor Customer Service and Manners

I recently visited Shiki, a Japanese restaurant that I had heard positive things about. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory due to the poor customer service and manners displayed by the staff.

From the moment I entered the restaurant, I felt unwelcome. The host seemed disinterested and barely acknowledged my presence. I was hoping for a warm and inviting atmosphere, but instead, I received cold and indifferent treatment.

As I was seated, it took an unusually long time for someone to attend to my table. The staff appeared disorganized and inattentive, despite the fact that the restaurant was not particularly busy. I had to wait far too long just to have my order taken.

When my food finally arrived, I was disappointed by the quality of the dishes. They lacked the freshness and authenticity I had anticipated. Moreover, the servers displayed a lack of knowledge about the menu when I asked for recommendations, leaving me feeling uninformed and uncertain about what to order.

The most glaring issue, however, was the staff's utter disregard for basic manners. They were dismissive and seemed uninterested in ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Requests for additional condiments or water refills were met with sighs and eye-rolls, further adding to my frustration.

It is disheartening to encounter such lackluster customer service, especially in a restaurant that prides itself on Japanese cuisine and hospitality. While the food may have its own merits, the overall experience was marred by the unprofessionalism and disregard for customers' needs.

I sincerely hope that Shiki takes this feedback constructively and works towards improving their customer service and staff training. It is essential for any establishment to prioritize genuine hospitality and courtesy towards its patrons, as these qualities greatly impact the overall dining experience.

I regret to say that I will not be returning to Shiki in the future, and I would hesitate to recommend it to others who seek exceptional service and a warm dining environment.

SIDE NOTE: This is a 100% honest review, did see a reply on the review they accused the guy of getting paid for leaving a bad review. This restaurant can’t...

Went here last night to celebrate mine and my partner’s anniversary. I booked a few weeks prior for 7:15pm but they changed the booking for 7pm the day before. Luckily I noticed on the email and asked if it could be changed back to which they got a bit funny about on the phone. I know it was only 15mins but I can see in other reviews this has happened before! They changed it by a few hours so please make sure you check this! The guy behind the bar wasn’t that friendly and didn’t show us to our table. We waited 15 minutes and still didn’t get a menu, saw another couple come in after us and got a menu straight away. I asked if I could have one and got snapped at a few times to wait a minute. The waiters weren’t that friendly and mixed up some orders. But the the food is absolutely amazing! If it wasn’t for that, we wouldn’t have had a nice time coming here. When we went to pay the man behind the till suddenly changed his attitude by acting very friendly (guessing for a tip) but due to the service from him we didn’t give him one. If we could of just tripped the chefs we would of. I hope the mannerism of the waiters towards their paying customers change as it wasn’t a very nice experience especially when our bill nearly...
