CUPP Bubble Tea - Nottingham — Restaurant in Nottingham

I rarely write negative reviews, but this bubble tea shop really missed the mark. I came in excited to try their “signature” brown sugar boba milk tea, but honestly, it was one of the worst I’ve had.

First off, the drink was way too sweet ,like syrupy to the point of being undrinkable. I asked for less sugar, but it felt like they went full 200%. The boba pearls were undercooked and hard in the center, making the texture super unpleasant. Definitely not the chewy, fresh tapioca you’d expect.

Service was another letdown. The staff seemed uninterested and impatient when I asked a couple of questions about the menu. No greeting, no smile, just a rushed order and a name called 15 minutes later for a drink that wasn’t even made correctly.

The shop itself wasn’t clean either. Sticky counters, spilt drinks everywhere, and no napkins in sight. I don’t know how this place gets so many positive reviews, maybe I caught them on a bad day, but I won’t be coming back...

My partner and I agree this is the worst, most watered down bubble tea we’ve had in our lives. And we’ve had A LOT of bubble tea. Mine tastes like ice water with a drop of matcha and zero taste of taro. His tastes like sugar water. This is even though we ordered less ice. Incredibly disappointing, and the fact that you charge significantly more than authentic bubble tea places that actually taste good? Also quite problematic that you call yourself “refined”. I would argue that authentic Taiwanese bubble tea is a lot more refined than this (barely) flavoured water.

By the way, if your advertising photos of specific drinks show toppings, then the price displayed next to it should be the price including those...

My go-to CUPP venue is Lincoln which is spot on! But I decided to visit this one as it’s actually closer to me than the Lincoln one.

I visited yesterday and the people working there are so rude it’s unbelievable, I waited longer than normal and all of a sudden the rudest of the 2 working asked the other one what is this!! It turns out my drinks were sat waiting for a good 5 minutes before they were given to me. The drinks were then placed on the counter after screaming my number, with only one straw. But the rude one ran off and started banging metal things together at the back of the kitchen, it took as a couple goes to get the attention of the not so rude one, to get another straw…

I probably won’t be visiting...
