I visited Mushroom Deli recently for brunch and, unfortunately, had a very unpleasant experience. I found a hair in my meal, which was upsetting enough, but as the kitchen is open and the cafĂ© was quite busy, I felt too embarrassed to raise it directly with the chef. On top of that, I was very uncomfortable to see two dogs being kept in a cage close to the kitchen area. As someone who is scared of dogs, this made the atmosphere quite stressful, and it didn’t feel like a professional or hygienic environment. After returning home, I looked into the café’s food hygiene rating and was shocked to discover that it currently holds only a 1-star rating. This, combined with what I experienced, has completely put me off returning. It also explains why there is no food hygiene sticker displayed in the window. I think it’s important that potential customers are aware of these issues, and I hope the cafĂ© takes steps to improve both hygiene standards and the overall environment.

  • a response to the chef **

I feel compelled to respond to you accusatory outrage.

There was a hair in my food - black and curly - we do not have this hair type, so it must have come from the kitchen. I am shocked to be accused of lying.

The food hygiene rating is public record, and my understanding is that this rating is primarily about food storage and preparation. I'm no expert, but it's there in black and white.

I stand by my review and, as stated earlier, I will not...

It was by chance we stumbled across the Mushroom kitchen as we walked back from the market in Attleborough. Originally we stopped for a hot drink. Which we had outside due too inside being a carvery for customers. Whilst enjoying our hot drinks, we'll we thought we're here now. Let's see if they have any spaces. They accommodated us. Even though we hadn't booked. Which I thought was fantastic of them. We had a Sunday Roast and we weren't disappointed. The food was exquisite and really hit the spot. Lovely little gem to go and eat at. It's a small, but cosy venue. Not overwhelming at all. The staff were amazing and customer service was second to none. Very friendly. We will be definitely be coming back soon to try their other delights including breakfast and the supper club. So if you fancy something different,...

Trusted recommendation for this establishment. A lovely bijou restaurant with seating inside and outside also (weather permitting). A menu that is just right in size that has vegan/vegetarian dishes and also gluten free alternatives. There’s hot and cold beverages, the iced oat latte was delicious. Would recommend contacting for availability as we were very lucky to get the last table available on a walk in. All staff were exceptionally helpful, polite and attentive. It’s a delight to find a new establishment within the local area that presents itself so well. Will definitely visit again and again, having already recommended it to family...

Went to try the food, which was nice enough but pretty much bog standard, just plated nicely with some green thrown ontop (tasty but disappointed, not worth the price tag). The wait staff were nice but the vile chef seems to think we cant hear him making disgusting foul mouthed comments about us!! i think the owner needs to have a word. The bigger problem for me was the lack of cleanliness. It smells of dogs and body odour. the floor was dirty, the walls were dirty, i glimpsed the kitchen and to be honest it put me off my food a bit. Had a check online and what do you know! 1 star food hygiene. I wont be back.
