We were lucky enough to be messaged by the “Get Lizzy” team in Oldham and asked if we like to visit and try some dishes that they would prepare for us, I’m no Liam Peet but we couldn’t refuse such a gracious offer. First of all I’d like to thank Nazib & his team for looking after us so well, nothing was too much trouble, the care and service was impeccable Nazib explained that he would like us to try an assortment of dishes and would love to know our thoughts as they are newly opened restaurant, transitioning from a takeaway background and before committing to advertising want to make sure they get things right Now as I said I’m no food reviewer and I really should have taken notes as the staff went to great lengths explaining each dish & mocktail, my bad and will learn from this if there is ever a next time Once seated we were started off with poppadom’s and the first of several mocktails came out, these were really nice, I’m not one for a cocktail in general but they did taste like a more grown up soft drink The starter of Seekh kebab, chicken tikka was lovely, you could tell it had been cooked to order, the chicken was really tender as was the lamb seekh which can be notorious for being over cooked, the spicing was delicate and in way overpowered the flavour of the meats The mains were something to behold, I don’t think Lisa or me have ever had some much food brought to us, they weren’t messing around with the portions either. These definitely were not sampling plates We were served a chicken tikka Afgaani curry with separate rice and garlic naan, the shredded doner sharing platter and the stirfried doner / chicken tikka over chips with copious amounts of chillies (right up my straza!) and then we had the theatre of the dry ice which elicited oohh and ahhs not only from ourselves but from other patrons. The Afgaani curry was again spiced with a delicate hand, not overpowering with ginger as some ive had, it had a gentle warmth but a good kick from the fresh green chillies, the garlic naan was again freshly cooked, soft with a gear tear
No one who knows me would be surprised to hear that the stirfried doner was my favourite, they said they gone easy on the heat on this one as they usually make them much hotter, I told them they really shouldn’t have and we are no stranger to world of naga, that said it still had a kick and tasted great but I’m still wondering how the full fat spicy one would have been ha ha
The sharing platter of shredded doner chicken tikka with rice and chips was also good, it had quite a different flavour profile to the belts of doner, not as much heat and quite sweet, I’d say a little over sweet for my taste and again I prefer the doner in full strips, it did work well with rice and seasoned fries especially of wrapped in some of the Naan with salad and of course being a sharing platter there was a Heck of a lot of it
A really enjoyable evening in lovely surroundings where the food & mocktails were indeed very good, the service was absolutely on point, once again thank you to the team for...
