Booked in for some lunch as we was given vouchers for a bad past TAKEOUT experience which involved ignorance of dairy intolerance and a unprofessional member of staff. We was told when given the vouchers to write a HONEST review, so here it is……. Me and my partner decided to go to the Diggle branch after trying the upper mill branch. Firstly upon arriving, we booked a pod and when booking they did not mention that we had to share A POD with OTHER customers. We then asked to be sat indoors and upon entering dining area was filthy. The floor looks like it’s not had sweep or a clean in months and put us off immediately. When being seated I was observing the dining and noticed one of the staff wearing filthy white crocs and put me and partner even more. We were approached by another staff shortly after and she took our order. When ordering, she DID NOT ask us if we had any ALLERGIES which is crucial when taking orders. This shows lack of allergy training, actually don’t think she was allergy trained at all but the manager that got in touch with us reassured us saying “All members of staff are allergy trained by herself” which now seems a lie as proven. It’s highly disappointing as we were told something that wasn’t true which also shows lack of professionalism. We went next door to “Bakes” to pick up some brownies and the girl at the desk asked us about allergies straight away before taking order or payment. It’s embarrassing for a small business like that next door to do one task this big business could NOT do. The food didn’t take too long to arrive but this was one of the most shocking parts. I ordered “the philly cheese steak sandwich” first of all, it was bland and second of all there was RAW meat in the sandwich. The steak was RAW! I have pictures to prove that and they will be posted below. I reported it to women in charge and she gave me the impressions of not having a clue what to do. She said she’s going to take to the kitchen and show the chef. She the come back and apologised and said to me that’s the way “it’s cooked” and the steak was “probed” before leaving the kitchen! If the steak was probed before leaving the kitchen that meat probe needs replacing with a new one ASAP! Or the chef needs REPLACING. She then told me that she’s going to take it off the bill but that isn’t a way of resolving it now is it? The way she dealt with it I found absolutely disgraceful and embarrassing. No professionalism, clueless, lack of knowledge in food industry and etc. After this terrible experience I definitely will NOT be back and will NOT be advising anyone to visit that place.

Lovely and friendly front facing staff, and great food. But... The menu is a bit restricted (and strange) for vegan options. Rather disappointing that they use the excuse of being understaffed in the kitchen for the reason of being unable to customize the dishes. The vegetarian breakfast is all vegan except for the egg, but they don't let you swap the egg for something vegan, like another sausage, but they do let you omit the egg and omit the butter on the toast leaving it dry! You can't help but feel short changed with a £12 cooked breakfast consisting of 6 items. Considering most places now accommodate a wide range of diets, this seems rather odd. Only one of the multiple vegan ice creams were available when we went, no vegan sundaes, cakes, pancakes, waffles etc. The lotus biscoff sundae which uses vegan ice cream, vegan biscuits, and vegan sauce has dairy cream on top of it?! This makes no sense! It's all very odd. The vegan lotus ice cream isn't anything special, it's not creamy, Ben & Jerry's vegan options are much nicer. But it's a start, and it's nice that they offer a vegan ice cream. They don't accept amex despite it being on the website as being part of amex offers for small businesses, they overcharged us a small amount, and they didn't offer itemised billing to make it easier to split the bill, have to do the maths yourself. Overall, most of the food is nice, and the coffee is good. We will nip in for an ice cream if passing by, but probably won't go in for breakfast again. It seems to have become too successful, so the customer doesn't really matter any more, they serve what they serve, and how they serve it, all whilst charging high prices. We left feeling a little underwhelmed and not really appreciated as a customer.

Want a peaceful view with your brunch and ice-cream, go to Grandpa Greene’s This is one of those organically grown places, in the last 18 months alone, that is situated in the owner’s massive back garden. They provide their freshly made ice cream to loads of other places including Black Milk. It’s such a cute setup that would be perfect in the summer, with the sun streaming in to the little pods that are set up by the water. However, this wasn’t the case for us - we regretfully got rain and lots of it. And the good things we got at Grandpa; •Greene’s were a combination of savoury and sweet; •Avocado, Poached Eggs & Grilled Tomato - A classic done well •Picnic Bench Afternoon Tea - Consisted of; Baguette slices of tuna mayo, egg mayo, smoked salmon with cream cheese and cheese & chutney - All made with the right balance of ingredients Chocolate mint cake - Lovely, refreshing cake that was by far the favourite of the sweet edibles •Brownie - Pure chocolate and it would be even better if it was warmed up to be all gooey •Scone with jam - With raisins and cherries, adding a sweet kick to complement the jam. Probably better with a bit of clotted cream as well. •Salted Caramel Milkshake - Subtle, smooth salted caramel taste, which is just the way we like it This was good, but the weather didn’t help and we reckon could be amazing with the right weather. Recommendation Rating: Medium Price: ££ Service: 8/10

We went there on Sunday.

First the good: The ice cream was the best bit of our trip and we had that to go (which tells you a lot). They have a lot of choice of flavours and it tastes very nice. Nothing to complain here apart from maybe wanting a bigger cone to fit more than 2 scoops.

Now for the bad: Parking is a nightmare. It’s cramped, narrow and unmarked, and there is insufficient space for all customers there - that’s for use. It’s a one way system on a dusty road so if you pull in and meet a car halfway through you need to back out which can cause a traffic jam. We had a 40 min drive up there and were expecting designated customer parking. Luckily someone was leaving and we were able to have parking otherwise it would’ve been a journey back home asap.

The toilets are outside the main restaurant (which isn’t the end of the world) but sadly they are filthy. Everyone including non customers can use them and you can pretty much smell them before seeing them. Disgusting.

There is also a bakery next to them. Why there? I don’t know. I would not want to buy anything from there knowing it’s right next to the toilets…

Now for the actual experience: We had a booking for the half inside and half outside part. It was stuffy. We sat down and ordered 2 bagels, an iced coffee and soft drink. Food took ages to arrive (the staff although nice looked overwhelmed) and although the food portion was massive, the bagels looked quite sad. As for the ice coffee, the whipped cream curdled and this was sent straight back. I was able to swap it for a soft drink which was nice but the glass was dirty so drank it out of the can.

When we paid the bill we were only told the amount. No receipt was ever produced.

And honestly I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Hence why dessert was to go. It wasn’t what I’d imagine at all and the cleanliness of the place combined with how the food was doesn’t invite me again. It’s simply not worth the hype or the drive from the city. And it’s such a shame because the canal walk is lovely and the area it’s in is so green and beautiful. So...

Very disappointed and safe to say will not be visiting again. We visited today, sat outside on the benches, because we had our dog with us.

There were no menus, so I stood at the ice cream counter waiting to ask the young lady behind it where the menus where. If she had not been busy talking to the girl she would have noticed I was waiting, but then a man comes up and she totally ignored me and asked him what he wanted. Eventually I was noticed, I was told to help myself to a menu from the wall.

I ordered 2 English teas and a bacon and egg muffin, total cost £9.50. The muffin arrived in less than 5 mins in a paper bag! No plate, no serviette, no sauce and no knife, to cut the sandwich in half. I asked a young lady who was walking about collecting plates, where was the sauce, I also asked for a serviette, and a knife. We waited a few mins thinking the teas would be with us, so we could eat and drink at the same time. I decided we would have to eat the sandwich, so it would not get cold. We ate the sandwich and still no teas. I asked the same girl to chase the teas up and they arrived nearly 20 mins after the muffin. We were given them in takeaway cups, tea bag still in the cup with milk already in, I drink my tea black, I expected it to arrive so we could choose if we wanted milk or not. We did not have a spoon to fish the tea bag out, I had to ask again for a spoon, sugar and sweetener. I got one sweetener, 1 white sugar and 1 brown sugar!

Just because we were sat outside and obviously classed, as a takeaway rather than eating behind the glassed seating area, doesn’t mean we should be treated any less favourably. We would have paid the same eating in or out. I had to ask on numerous occasions for things that should have been automatically supplied, like a spoon to stir the tea, like sugar and sweetener! Service was bad and it was only 11.30, not very busy. We won’t be...
