After an awesome walk in Dovestones we decided on Sunday lunch. We arrived as walk-in and it wasn't busy. Was cosy with a fireplace. Good baby change too. Staff were good although possibly mis informed regarding the food menu. The reason I say this, we were a party of 6 adults, 1 teen and a baby. And 3 dogs. We all wanted a Sunday lunch. But there was none. It was off for some reason. So we ordered off the regular menu. Starters were good. Mains, 6 X steak pie with minted garden peas and chips. Cheese and onion pie, mash and beans. Great comfort food on a rainy day. Now, the pie came.... Without crust.... No top, or bottom, no crust at all. So we asked, "is there meant to be a crust, maybe A lid like puff pastry". The waitress said she would ask the chef. Then returned and said no it doesn't come with crust... Isn't that what a pie is? Anyway, it was nice but not a pie. So we basically got pie filling. Oh also the minted garden peas were not, they were mushy peas, which were also good, but not what we ordered.
The cheese and onion pie was really good and DID come with crust and looked like a pie. We decided not to order dessert.. In case the ice cream came as yogurt or something.
To summarise, very helpful and friendly staff. Warm and nice food, but the kitchen needs to work on the menu and deliver what is typed. Or if they can't then communicate that to us so we can order...
Read moreConveniently located for the Saddleworth Rushcart activities. Good bar with real ales that I liked. Large car park. Comfortable rooms at cheap prices. HOWEVER, the bar food was poor and breakfast was utterly substandard: coffee of low wuslity made a cup at a time for a family of coffee addicts; eggs poorly cooked; marmalate far too sweet, bread run out (!). Bathrooms poor, short of every requisite. WiFi very poor in the rooms; unusable. The landlady was well-intentioned and tried hard to be obliging but the place was too cheap to provide a better service. I wish them luck and may even go back; but they need some advice if they intend to keep the B&B...
Read moreBe what you are. Went midweek for first time. Outside looks good but inside very tired and floors not clean. Food prices a little high but would be fine if they delivered. Cheese n Onion plated pie portion tasted ok. Served with skin on fries and beans. Not enough beans (spoonful) as in a small pot. Burger for Mrs. See pic. Burger patty ok and again served with skinny fries pot of slaw and side salad. Salad tired and slaw too risky. Burger meaty. They are Deffo making margins. ADVICE. Put food on a plain white plate, give good portions, don't serve tired or past it food. Wouldn't return as it is as for midweek lunch Old Bell does it's classics at a...
