Update 17 August 25

Been a few times more. Sad to say standards seem to be starting to slip, maybe new cooks/chefs?

Love it BUT little things are now letting it down.

Last two visit saw cracks in the product delivered, although venue and staff great as always.

Previous Sunday meal - veggies not quite right, fish a bit dry, and meals just not what they were.

THEN this last Sunday 17 Aug was worse again... Something amiss with the beef as its flavour had a strong acrid, sour taste, (TWO OF US COULDNT EAT IT). The other had pie luckily. The veggies have got worse - as they were now served part warmed through, my Yorkshire pudding crusty and cold and the gravy was "gloopy" and tasteless and cold. Waiters tried to resolve but changing dish puts you out of sync with others on table. Got a new warmer softer Yorkshire and thinned hot gravy to save delays.

Unfortunately it is getting to state WHERE WE ARE NOW 50/50 about going again! Shame as I love the venue.

Update 8 June 25 below: Been quite a few times now. Many of these on a Sunday. This Sunday was really fantastic. Food - outstanding ( 1 Fish and 3 Roast beef) Vegetables so delicious and plentiful. Full range (not charging extra for cauliflower cheese like many - even though I'd be happy to pay it!) Service - outstanding! Tips freely given and well deserved. Grandchildren ate for free! Atmosphere improved when people came in (we were 1st as had hungry youngster). Its the best restaurant in Saddleworth and I suspect the whole of North East Machester. Delightful afternoon. 😊 TAF

First time visit Dec 2024: Birthday bash. Blew the budget. Full a la carte with appropriate wines. Really special. Will return. Thanks...

We returned to Salt on Friday night with high expectations following a positive experience last month. New members of our party were equally impressed by the restaurant's ambiance and professional service.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food fell short of our expectations. Several dishes deviated from their menu descriptions, lacking key ingredients. The Seven-Spiced Calamari, for instance, was notably absent of chilli and roast garlic emulsion, resulting in a bland dish.

The Fish & Chips, a classic we anticipated, was disappointing due to a missing ham-hock component and an overly greasy, soggy texture.

The ‘rack of lamb’ was beautifully cooked but grossly undersized for its £32 price point. Advertising a single cutlet as a ‘rack’ is misleading and doesn’t justify the premium cost.

We expressed our disappointment to our server who informed us the manager had been made aware. However, despite promises, the manager failed to address our concerns directly. It was only upon receiving the bill that we had the opportunity to speak to a manager, who unfortunately couldn’t assist due to their probationary period.

While the restaurant's interior is stunning and the service attentive, the significant disparity between the menu's promises and the delivered dishes is unacceptable. We hope these issues are addressed to align with the restaurant’s premium...

Booked in for a table of 5 people about 2 months before dining at salt, arrived to be sat at a table of 4 cramed in , we were told that people were over staying at there tables and we would have to wait to they went . Asked if we could put a chair at the side of our table to make it abit easier , the guy just said were out of chairs . Not one person came to our table to take our drink orders, had to get up and ask 3 times could we order a drink . Then the same with the food order , and when the food did arrive it was average and wouldn't of filled a baby up the portion sizes. Asked to see the dessert menu and 3 out the 5 of us put a order in for 3 separate desserts and didn't have a one available , said they had run out . It wasn't even busy . The table what we should have been sat on was booked out to some other party and they didn't even show. I thought when the bill came there would of been some kind of deduction or complimentary drinks , but nothing . And the table we were sat on we were freezing there was a draft coming right under our feet. Poor experience and poorly run . The staff are well to slow and it wasn't even busy . Would not...

My wife and I ate at Saltuppermill today. First time, and will not be the last. An all-round Incredible experience. From the moment we walked in to every dish served. Food was amazing, service excellent and the décor and feel spot on. We got there around 2pm and we had the place to ourselves. Felt very even more personal and indulgent. Places like this need to be supported. I took some photos of the starters we had and also the deserts. Forgot to take ones of the main as I just couldn't wait to get stuck in :-) But seriously, the food is amazing! Some of the "food" that some people eat and then go on to review is overpriced, over rated and nothing more than a step up from fish and chips (not that I have anything against a good chippy tea) Next time you hand over your hard earned £s make sure you are getting true value for money and something that makes your tastebuds actually sing and not cry out for mercy.

One of the best restaurants I have been to for a long time. The warm welcome from staff is the first thing you notice. Such a lovely place. The food is amazing. Today we had pate and prawn cocktail for starters followed by the sirloin beef dinner. The beef was cooked to perfection and the veg and potatoes were perfect. We had the blue Yorkshire cheese desert served with a glass of port. 100% fantastic value for money

Treated my wife to a nice meal for her birthday. Salt did not disappoint. The staff went out of their way to make sure it was not just another meal out, but an experience to remember. Fish was cooked perfectly and the different salts added a whole new dimension to the meal. A little pricey however worth it for special occasions.
