We have been coming here since we moved down here from Birmingham. For the past couple of months things have been getting drastic. It all started when the pub shut for covid. Firstly they took the mushrooms off the mixed grill. Didn't really mind but they charged for mushrooms extra. The mixed grill was nice so didn't mind too much. Then things started going downhill. Less onions on the plate then sometimes after travelling 30 miles from Launceston for a mixed grill. Sometimes they were available other times not. The quality of food and waiting times went downhill. The last time we visited we ordered 3 courses together. The starter took around 30 minutes to come out. We finished that in 5 minutes took another 35 minutes for the waitress to come and get out empty dishes. Around 45 minutes after that our mains came out (wanted an xl mixed grill but they ran out of steak) minus the eggs which the waitress told us that they would be 5 minutes. 25 minutes later after nearly finishing our meal I had to get up find a waitress and ask for the eggs again. 5 minutes later they came out all burned at the bottom a brown crispy mess. Nearly chocked on it it was that thick. We waited about 20 minutes for our pudding. Whilst waiting we were just looking around. Plaster coming off walls so bad the bits were on out table. Windows were filthy. Floor filthy. Decor and cleanliness was a zero Please go and have a look for yourself if you think this is an exageration you will see its not. This used to be our favorite pub for a meal which we made a 60 mile round trip for the food and the atmosphere. After the last time we were there. I can honestly say I will not be returning as this has turned into a dirty greasy mess of a pub which needs whatever has gone wrong put right. The manager should be ashamed of what it's turned into. If you think this is a review just to put this pub down its not. Please go check it out for yourselves check the cleanliness and the walls with huge chunks missing out of it. Think people have been going round with their eyes shut not to notice how dirty this place is. Very...
Read moreMy son and I had nachos, one gluten free, a pint of lemonade and I ordered a cheeky pint of Abbot's Ale as my car's now scrapped so, why not? ( garage reviews to follow shortly). After I made great pains to select from the ( sticky grubby) gluten free menu ( delighted it was an actual menu) the nachos arrived with no distinction between the gluten and gluten free. Basically, it was a bag of Doritos with vinegary " salsa" from a budget tub and small blobs of other toppings. It tasted like something my child would assemble to watch cartoons with and cost £5. The pint was £5 and delicious. But within 10 minutes I had nausea and a crippling stomach ache. A quick Google revealed that Abbot's Ale contains wheat and " fuggles" and of course is not suitable at all for the gluten intolerant. My bad for not thinking of it, but Greene King take note; we don't always remember ale has gluten. I had stressed multiple times the nachos MUST be gluten free but the lovely barperson, although personable and lovely, did not point out my ale had gluten. Did they know? Because really, they should. We paid £18 for this cheeky snack. Sat outside in sweltering heat which was nice but stools were wobbly and there wasn't much shade or interest. For the price, it was poor. The lovely barperson and waiter made a big difference. But the gluten which fave me a horrendous stomach ache the next day made it a fail, albeit partly my own fault, but still, I expect them to know their ales and I'd stressed I cannot have gluten. This could be a lovely pub, given the chance. Beautiful clean toilet, friendly kindly staff. Please invest in the decor, training in special needs and please, sort out those hideous nachos my 10 year old could improve on! And replace the sticky menu cards with clean ones. Then you have a decent pub. Look at pricing too- nobody can sustain £18 for a few crisps, a lemonade and a beer. Please and...
Read moreAfter a disappointing service 4 years ago,we decided to try again at the Tamar. Unfortunately this proved to be a major error. We booked our table for 18.15 for a party of 8 to celebrate a birthday. The first error was no table space,so another group were moved to accommodate us. We were told food was a 45 min wait so we ordered drinks. Food eventually arrived 2 hrs later, with complimentary drinks as a sorry. Clearly many tables were frustrated already. The food came out and it was discovered that the chicken was still raw on certain plates after we had started eating it. We called the FOH staff over to show them, and in all fairness they were nearly as shocked as we were. They offered to replace it,but by then nobody wanted it. Apparently the chefs were new. We assumed this meant new to the Tamar not new to catering! In all fairness the two FOH girls did all they could in apologies, and it was plainly clear to see how frustrated they were in fighting a losing battle without any backup. They offered us free desert after wiping the bill ,which we accepted, which still resulted in the strawberries virtually still iced up,and brought out at different times,so some of our party and finished eating before others had even had theirs brought out. The table behind us left and mentioned to us their experience was also very bad. 15 mins later,a table of seven ladies sat beside us who had witnessed our experience left and said exactly the same, stating and they would not be returning again either! There is clearly an issue here, unless it was an incredibly bad night. The one star rating was given for the two girls serving us who did all they could to help, but it is impossible to bail out a ship with a shot glass! Restaurant customers are very unforgiving, and rarely give venues a 2nd chance. We did!..but this proved to be a major error, and disappointingly we will definately not...
