Mowchak — Restaurant in Portsmouth

We've always enjoyed the food here, even ate here New Year 2021/2022. So did the same this year. The staff are pleasant, but the food was really disappointing.

My tandoori king prawn starter and sag bhahee was also fine, but okra bhajee was tasteless, I picked a Meal that has lots of flavours in it that I enjoy it also said plus herbs, a strong minty taste overwhelmed the whole dinner. I had one taste and knew for the first time ever, I had to say i couldnt eat it, they changed it for, Tikka masala for me, but that was a weird taste too, very strong coconut, not just coconut milk but actual desiccated coconut. I didn't like it but felt I couldn't say so again, I shared it round the table and everyone said it was very sweet and coconut flavoured. The garlic rice was bland, not that garlicky. The food here is simply outstanding, and every dish reflects a commitment to quality and flavor. From the moment you enter, the cozy and welcoming atmosphere makes you feel right at home.

The menu offers a wide variety of choices, and everything we tried was delicious. The garlic shrimp appetizer was a perfect start, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The main course, a succulent ribeye steak, was seasoned and grilled just right, with a side of creamy mashed potatoes that were the best I've ever had.

The service was also exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed.

We had an impromptu meal out here on May 17th, 1st day of lockdown easing! We moved to the area June2020 and have finally managed to try this place out.

The onion bahji's were the most flavoursome that I have ever had, including in India. Not only crispy but full of flavour. The food was good and the service was excellent. After starters we were asked if we wanted some time before mains, this is the 1st place in as long as I can remember that asked that question. This allowed us to spread our evening out across a number of hours and enjoy a few drinks between each course. A small thing but of vital importance.
