Golden Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Reigate and Banstead

In hourly for a stop of before my flight.

Staff were very friendly,

Got a large chips and a sausage with batter,

I am unusually perplexed with this, I love chips sadly probably one of my favourite things I am quite fussy about them but have never came across this before which is surprising.

OK let's get the sausage out the way it tasted ok but was Luke warm and a very dull grey color also was not a normal chip shop sausage well at least Compared to every other chippy I have ever had I'm tempted to go try one of the other chippy's now to see if they are the same.

The chips were cooked well a nice crunch which I like and soft inside oil was clean as there was no real oil flavour on the chips but they tasted of nothing it's so bizarre normally chippy chips have a distinct taste cooked either good or bad they taste lime chippy chips I don't know how or why but these tasted like nothing I think perhaps they use the wrong oil? I honestly have no idea and feel ki da dad for the folks who are using it and honestly believe they are good...

They forgot to add vinegar to the water that was in the vinegar bottle on the table I get it everyone waters down the non brewed condiment they use but Come on leave some for a bit of flavour.

I am honestly sad after that. I left about 80% of the food on the plate. Price was...

Really lovely staff ... And I'm sorry to say this... but the cod was so overcooked it was dry and the fish was stuck to the batter very tightly... and the batter was cold and had sat for so long it'd gone too dry and chewy... The chips had Salt and vinegar added as I watched her do it... But the chips were so dry the condiments hadn't soaked through nor the salt lay on them properly...

I'm afraid it's one of the worst 8 quid meals I've ever had... Which is a shame as the staff were lovely... But I couldn't eat most of it.

Possibly the worst chip shop chips ever. I live in Australia so I crave chippy chips when I’m away and it’s the first or last meal I have when home. This time it’s my last and I could honestly cry it’s so bad. The chips taste of nothing and because the vinegar is so watered down, even that doesn’t save it. She did offer to go and buy me some proper Sarson’s but I said no as I knew it wouldn’t be sufficient to make it good. I left feeling bad for the people in Horley if this is the highest...
