Our flight was cancelled so we found ourselves in charming Horley; I’d walked past here a couple of times and it looked cute so we (me, hub and son) went for a drink early-evening last week. It’s a lovely pub inside and the staff were friendly (I’d been accidentally overlooked by a staff member who went to serve a regular but he pointed me out and she apologised and served me. No problem, I was probably hidden by the pillar) and for this area this prices are very reasonable.
As I was making my way outside I was glared at by a woman sitting indoors. I smiled and made my way outside. I didn’t think anything of it but about an hour I went in to the toilets and again she stared me down as I walked past her table. It was very uncomfortable. I don’t know if this is where the locals come to get respite from the stranded travelers meandering around your town.
Unsure whether I’d return in future for this reason.
Maybe she’d mistaken me for someone else.
Not telling others to avoid, if you go I truly hope you enjoy it. The seating out the front is lovely during the warm weather and I saw they’ve got a beer garden out the back.
The food prices again are very reasonable for the sizes I saw on...
Read moreWe dropped into the Foresters Horley after dinner at the Shiraz Turkish restaurant, keen to cap off the evening with a quick pint before heading back to the hotel. The pub has plenty of charm, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and a genuine local vibe. The staff were friendly, and a good mix of regulars and newcomers made it easy to settle in.
It was lively while we were there, with groups chatting and watching the sport. We enjoyed sitting outside and chatting with some of the locals, who were welcoming and up for a laugh. However, our visit took an unexpected turn, as a heated argument inside quickly escalated into full-on fisticuffs, which, despite the staff's best efforts, spilt outside. It was certainly dramatic, but everyone seemed to take it in stride. We took it as our cue to finish up and grab a taxi back to the hotel.
On balance, Foresters Horley is a proper British local: friendly, bustling and full of life. Just be aware, it can get a bit rowdy! All things considered, it made for a memorable end to our...
Read moreAfter living in HORLEY for ten years i read on line that they had an interesting menu and reasonable prices at THE FORESTERS So i went for lunch and had a pleasant young lady server called Maria. I went into the Foresters at 1. 45 pm thinking i would arrive as the lunch hour crowd were leaving. I was right. Lots of diners were gone within minutes of my arrival. I order HAMBURGER AND FRIES very good . Maria then presented me with the bill. ‘Hold on”, i said ‘ i want to have desert and coffee’. I had to wait a long, long time to get my desert. As all the lunch hour diners had gone. I wondered “why do i have to wait so long.’ I could be wrong, mistaken identity but i thought i saw Maria with coat on stepping into the pub garden and lighting a cigarette. I may be mistaken??? A man i had not seen before served my desert. I waited so long i cancelled my coffee. I wanted to be home before...
