We arrived 15 minutes before our booking and sat in the bar area. The table was not ready until 15 minutes after our booking which was a bit disappointing when we were dining with a 1 year old. We were also told as soon as we sat that there were no roast dinners left. They looked good seeing them on other tables and probably the best value for money of dishes we saw. The fish and chips and fish platter were also pretty good value for money but don't even go there with the surf and turf. For nearly £20 it arrived on a starter size plate with a hand full of chips on it, 4 thin slivers of steak and 3 king prawns. As standard it was served with one sauce and for an extra £2 you could upgrade to peppercorn sauce. I upgraded, my husband didn't. We asked for the sauces to be served on the side so we could both try each sauce. They both arrived with the sauce already on them (about a dessert spoon full on each - wasn't worth £2 on its own never mind as an upgrade option).
Ordered sausage and mash for my 1 year old daughter which was £6.50 and a much better portion than the surf and turf. It was tasty.
When we got to desserts there was no custard left, again a bit disappointing. And my husband wanted to order some more savoury food due to the very small main he was served but they wouldn't take an order for savoury only desserts.
Overall the atmosphere was nice. The service was ok. The food was hit and miss. If you can get in for a roast dinner then maybe worth a shot.
Management asked me to one side at the bar if my surf and turf was ok. I said I was disappointed especially with the size. He said "sorry about that" then he webt behind the bar.
I will probably be back at some point as it's a local place for some of my family so will update with my next...
Read moreDined here after a recommendation for somewhere to try & we were appalled at the entire visit. When we arrived we stood waiting for around 5 min to be seen & seated for our booking before having to go to the barman & ask him (he then found the girl that was meant to be on the front desk) we were seated & our drinks order was taken... the drinks took 15minutes to arrive & only got them after asking about them when the waiter came to ask if we were ready to order our food. We got an apology with the drinks that apparently the Pepsi barrel had needed to be changed! It would have been better service to inform us of this without us having to ask about them 10 minutes after ordering them when we were ordering our food. We then had a 40 minute wait before our food arrived (it wasn't busy when we were there & also saw people that had arrived after us get their food before us!?) The table behind us also had to ask over their deserts as they had been waiting quite a while for them. The food standard left a lot to be desired, chicken skewers that were full of pieces of gristle & not chunks of chicken breast as you would expect & potatoes that were only part cooked. My "ultimate steak burger" was very dry & to be honest the lettuce taste was stronger than the burger... I've had tastier burgers out of the freezer/McDonald's/butty vans! We gave the deserts a try hoping they might redeem but no such luck... the crème brûlée was soggy instead of thick & creamy & the sticky toffee pudding was more like dough than a cake but not in a good way! Needless to say we won't be visiting here again, it is a nicely presented bar/restaurant but the service & food was...
Read moreEaten here a couple of times but our most recent experience was very interesting. When the waitress came to take our order, a member of our party asked what the specials were - she told him to walk to the front of the pub and look at the board because she couldn’t possibly remember (there were 5!). We waited a long time for the food, which, to be fair, wasn’t bad for pub grub. However, during the meal, the stem of my friends wine glass broke - I informed the waitress who looked at me as though she had heard me and nodded before blatantly ignoring me and not coming to rectify the issue leaving broken glass on the floor and on the table. We had two 1 year olds with us so I was hugely disappointed at their lack of disregard for safety, but what do you expect when the average age of employees is clearly 14. I had to go and talk to someone at the front desk as I was seriously concerned about the broken glass scattered across the floor. Finally, a different waitress bought us our food, however she was very aggressive in her manner - seemed to have a huge attitude, but again, what do you expect from a place which seems to employ only teenagers with no respect for the customer or gratitude for the fortunate position they are in - perhaps a training day is needed? Desserts were okay but pretty bland,...
