Got here after four o’clock the afternoon of Wednesday 8th June. Loads of free parking outside. Entrance easily accessible even if you have mobility issues. I opted for the 3 course offer from the Table d’Hote evening menu. This menu changes at four o’clock. My brother choose to get just a pizza. For starter got the Calamari. Very good portion and tasted fresh and served very hot. Probably enough for 2 people. For mains I ordered the Pizza Piccantina. My brother ordered the Pizza Piccadilly which was supposed to be ‘ very hot.’ Pizzas were very generous portions, plenty of toppings and base was lovely and fresh. Mine had loads of chilli's on it and I really enjoyed. It was quite spicy. My brothers which was supposed to be very hot didn’t seem to have as many chilli’s on it as mine did. He was a little disappointed but still the pizzas were very enjoyable and filling. For dessert I got cheesecake. Very tasty and moreish. Again a very good portion. The espresso was probably one of the strongest we had ever tasted but had already started to go cool so little disappointed with that. Overall very impressed. I will definitely be giving this establishment another visit even thought it’s out of the way for me. Portions are excellent and the set menu great value for money. One or two very minor quibbles hence 4 stars but then I very seldom give anywhere 5. All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment for an late afternoon, early evening satisfying meal that doesn’t cost a fortune.
Please read review of our second visit and why I have changed my rating to five stars.
We returned on the afternoon of Wednesday August 3rd. Had another excellent meal at a very reasonable price. For drinks ordered a pint of Moretti at £5.50. A very nice 250ml glass of house red at £6.25 and a sparkling mineral water at £2.80. Great not to get ripped off on non alcoholic drinks. I had the three course option, my brother had the two course. My starter of meat balls was supposed to be spicy. I didn’t find it so but was still tasty and the sauce very rich. The bread was lovely. Tasted so fresh and our waiter, I think he was the manager or one of the owners, confirmed they baked their own bread fresh on the premises every day. Pizzas were again excellent. Thin crust really crisp and tasty. For dessert I again went for the lime and lemon cheesecake and my brother had profiteroles. Seemed to be a bit of a delay serving these but when they arrived we could see why. The presentation was top notch. Not normally one for dessert but the cheesecake here is lovely. We were stuffed after our meals. Again another great dining experience at a very affordable price. I would have no hesitation based on our two visits recommending Tiggis. I will certainly be going back. Based on this second visit I have changed my rating to five stars. I’m unable to leave a second review as it seems to delete the first one if you try to do so. So hopefully anyone reading this will understand why my rating has gone from four...
Read moreGood afternoon. We visited Tiggis on the A59 after at the last minute deciding we would nip out for something to eat. We tried some of our usual haunts to find them as expected fully booked. So having had a nice experience in Blackpool at Tiggis we thought we would try the one nearest to us. We ordered off the Christmas menu and I ordered Ribs to start with and although found them tender and covered in a tasty sauce I did not understand the raw red chillies on the plate for decoration as they took away from the taste of the dish and were left on the pate and I would have thought a slightly bigger potion would have been gratefully received. Now the mains I had a Ravioli which was lovely the pasta had a nice little bite to it and both the sauce and filling were delicious but another one would have not gone a miss. My wife had the chicken with mushroom sauce which (having pinched a bit) was very good and was a proper plate full cooked well. Now I am not a pudding fan but once (or maybe twice) a year christmas pudding is called for although I did have my reservations in an Italian themed restaurant. It was bland and aired not piping hot as I would have liked so maybe I should have kept it for Christmas day at home ?? I have also to comment on the beer as there was a tang to it but that could have been from what I had eated prior to having dinner so all in all we will be visiting again but possibly when there is a full menu on as opposed to a Christmas one. Service was attentative without being over powering and everyone was made to feel welcome...
Read moreVery disappointing 😞 service was all or nothing ie. We had long gaps were we were left with nothing then 2 even 3 waitresses/waiters would ask the same question in succession....weird. Next the food, really really disappointed, very few vegetarian options, only 3 main courses, ricotta and spinach tortellini, vegetable goulash or pizza. I was expecting being an Italian for them to tell me that I could choose any dish and they'll simply makes it without the meat or fish, but no such luck. I asked 2 waitresses about vegetarian choices and they appeared a little flummoxed and pointed to the 2 dishes. I chose the tortellini, which was very bland. The starter wasn't much better, goats cheese with cereal and peppers, very weird, it appeared to have cheerios scattered ontop with what tasted like apricot jam and roasted peppers, felt like I was eating a sweet and savoury breakfast. The best thing was the Tiramisu dessert. Finally we had problems with the bill, took 3 times to get it correct. It's a very stylish place but unfortunately the food and haphazard service...
