The Bridge Chippy & Restaurant — Restaurant in Rochdale

Badly organised service, and disappointing fish and chips. The last time I visited, maybe a year or so ago. I dined in the restaurant. The fish and chips were excellent. How things have changed!!. Yesterday I decided to pay another visit. Before setting off, I visited their website to view a menu. The only information I could see was a note stating they were running a reduced menu. I joined the queue. They were allowing 2 people at a time in the shop, the procedure appeared to be, to enter the shop, be served and go. No problem with that so far. While standing in the queue, a guy came out of the side door, wanting to know who wanted fish, no option offered so I thought, after all they are running a reduced menu and said I wanted two fish. It wasn't until I entered the shop that I could see the menu, the girl serving asked me for my order and noticed there was a choice of cod or haddock. She confirmed there was a choice but my fish were already in the frier. She then asked me to go outside again to wait for my order being ready as they had other people to serve, so had to pass close by people queuing in the doorway. I had noticed that other customers had been allowed to stay in the shop far longer than me, and didn't witness anyone else being asked to go back outside to wait for their order. I felt the girl was a little abrupt in her manner and that my custom was interfering with her day. She won't have that problem again because I won't be returning. Not only that, the fish and chips were nothing special. Reasonable quality, small portions and expensive I'm mystified as to how some reviewers...

Busy despite its location.

Service: Typical chippy, “Do you want any fish?” Is the first question anyone gets asked. This is to help speed up your order. After that, unless there are ‘cooked chips’ ready to serve, it was a long wait, listening to the two young girls at the till stand and gossip. One order at a time. I took cash out as I was warned there was no ‘chip and pin’ facilities.

Food: Chip portions are large. The steak pie looked like it had been ‘warmed up’. No signs of it being bronzed by an oven. The gravy was so-so, but the Chinese curry sauce was lovely! The small cod was a good size.

Value: Great value; lots of choice.

Food was decent, I didn't like the owner, I'm assuming he was the owner, he acted that way anyway. The system of taking multiple orders at once, both over the phone and in the shop, makes for disorganized chaos as the staff then work out whose order belongs to who. One of the young girls behind the counter had a face like a slapped a*, what she doesn't realise is she will still be working there in 10 years with that kind of attitude in life. Finally, if you are a regular, which I won't ever be, the owner has little descriptions of his customers and relays this to his staff when telephone orders arrive to pick up their food, I'm not sure these customers...
