Hockley Cafe — Restaurant in Rochford

Okay but not great, I arrived and it was small but they made good use of the space, being a small room though it gets really loud even when not busy. When asked take-away or eat in by the server who was also the manager and cook, we sat down and he walked off, 5 mins later we was asked what we wanted to eat, I switched a few things around, nothing extravagant, some chips and water, with his poor skills he didnt ask how we wanted the meal or if it was bread or toast, bottle water or tap, he walks off again not saying anything, another 5 mins later a bottle of water is given and I said I wanted tap please for my own reasons, the bottle was snatched off the table and literally thrown to the bottom of the fridge, when the chips came they looked great, however they were really dry, like really dry, full english came and the sausages were over cooked and wrinkled, they we also the same sausages you get in a fish and chip shop as apose to your everyday Cumberland type, the egg was over cooked including the yolk, the rest of the food was manageable, asking for 1 hash brown took my dinner from 5.60 to 8.60. I paid it unwantingly, if I was you and you wanted better food I would honestly just go cook it yourself, it was a waste of money that didnt need to be spent, next time I'll go...

Staff are always welcoming and the food is the best in that area, and also further afield come to that. Well worth a visit. Breakfast number 7 for me every time. Excellent. Extremely good value too.

Since writing this review I'm sad to say that the owner/chef has sold the cafe and in my personal view it does not give the same service or high quality of food. I have eaten twice since the new owners have had it. On the first visit I was served with some wrong items on the plate and the second visit I'm sad to say wasn't much better. So went in this cafe today had two eggs , one sausage , tomatoes , two bacon 2 bits of black pudding one was the end bit so tiny, a small burger, a black coffee, the woman said oh he's aving separates! In a oh what mug sort of tone , even though it was like two items changed from there set menu and with no bread . They charged me £18 .60 for the breakfast which is a absolute liberty and I'll never go back there again , english people mugging off english workers! absolutely...
