The White Hart — Restaurant in Rochford

Food was amazing. Portion sizes were large. We arrived early and they let us sit in the pub at the table we had booked until it opened. Very welcoming, table of 7 and everyone had a great meal. We paid another visit on the 29th December we booked a table for 8. Some of our party were held up but they were relaxed about it. They checked if we wanted refills for our drinks. We checked what the late arrivals wanted to eat and ordered before they arrived. The waitress made 2 trips to the kitchen to check on ingredients for us. 1 of the party was vegan and they apologised that the only thing they had was a bean burger which she had an assortment of vegetables. The food was well cooked big portions and piping hot, we had Cod and chips, garden or mushy peas. Scampi and chips again a choice of garden or mushy peas. A beefburger and chips could add cheese if wanted. Linginue and meatballs with garlic bread everyone enjoyed their meal. Dessert we had Christmas pudding which was vegan, a brownie, lemon roulade and apple and cranberry crumble all served with your choice of custard, cream or ice cream. Our waitress said that if we go again and a vegan meal is required to let them know and they would make sure there would be more choice for her, but she did enjoy her meal and her 1st christmas pudding in years. Visited White Hart today with my wife for a Roast lunch. Having checked reviews which are generally positive it fell well short of our expectations. Everything lacked flavour, Lamb very tough, roast potatoes didn’t seem fresh (aunt Bessie vibes), cauliflower cheese very over cooked and again no flavour, veg again seemed pre packed. Was just extremely poor given the high price point of £18.50 per head. On a plus our waiter was nice as was the yorkshire pudding and the pre packed mint sauce. Can’t recommend this place unfortunately and won’t be returning for food again. Shame as the pub is a nice place...

Enjoyed a wonderful friendly welcome from several staff and they allowed me to taste three beers free of charge, it was my first visit. All were good, I chose the “proper job” bitter twas fabulous. All of my party ordered the rib eye steak, mine was medium rare and cooked to perfection, the other three were on the money too, the hand cut chips were superb.
