Customer service, greeted well, knowledgeable and helpful, kind and courteous.
Papaya Salad - Light, fragrant, good spice and well flavour, a robust mixture of combination of delightful flavours , presented well, really well made and sought.
Satay chicken - soft and light chicken , lightly seasoned, the satay sauce could have been stronger in flavour, lacked depth in peanut, the small spice could have been enhanced within it.
Salt and pepper chilli squid - lightly fried however could have done longer in the fryer, the salt chilli and pepper combo could have been stronger, lacked enough of it. Squid was fresh and vibrant, wasn’t chewy but perfectly cooked, fair sized portion.
Green Thai curry - flavourful , light, spicy and fresh, really well balanced creamy flavours which was very authentic.
Pad Thai - had all the flavours of a pad Thai, was very tasty and authentic really happy with this dish, personally I believe that iy could have been a touch spicier and a touch sweeter . But we’ll made and really happy with the taste.
Pineapple Thai rice - lacked flavour, was a rather small portion as well, could have had more of it, needed more nuts as well. I understand that presentation of Thai Orchid is focused as bowls and a smart outlook but pineapple rice is renowned to be known to severed in a pineapple, many places in Thailand and event 5 star hotels and restaurants would do the same. The dish lacked flavour.
Chill basil prawns - very well made, flavours were there and hit all the pallet. Was fragrant and spicy, prawns and veg were cooked very well, had great flavours and combinations.
Overall I would recommend Thai orchid , it is a great place to visit to enjoy authentic Thai food, it is on the rather pricier scale for what the portion size is. The flavours we done well, it is an interesting atmosphere the Resturant is, a great asset in Battle. Really...
Read more31st August 2015 As my wife and I and 2 children (10 and 12yrs) entered at 6.15pm all looked well. We were shown to a table upstairs and then the wait began (It was not a particularly busy Sunday night). After about 15 minutes they took drinks orders and I indicated we were ready to order food as well at this point but another waitress had to do this so we waited and presently that order was taken. The drinks and starters took a while but the delay was acceptable but then we awaited the main course............................................................................... .......................................................................................... .........................................................................................
2 hours after we had arrived we were still awaiting the main course. There was no explanation or apology, no offer of a complimentary drink or any other communication, part way throught the wait they brought us warm plates ready for the main course but this was just a cruel tease as they were cold by the time we gave up. In exasperation I asked for the bill; £31 for rubbery chicken satays and mediocre mixed starters and 2 beers and juice for the children!
I have probably tried over 100 Thai restaurant over many years and this one is one I will never forget for all the wrong reasons. The management seriously need to address the system in the kitchen and how they communicate with...
Read moreWe love Thai food & had been thinking of going to the Thai Orchid since moving into the town. Mixed feelings on our experience : On arrival we were greeted by an English guy (the owner ?) & were told that someone else was at our table & hadn't left yet. As we had booked in advance this was strange. Almost immediately we were told we could be seated at a different table. As we had no idea what table we were supposed to be at there seemed no point in mentioning it at all. We were seated in the main dining area which is upstairs & was probably only about half full which made the initial comment downstairs even more unnecessary. The atmosphere was calm, almost subdued & it didn't have a 'Thai' feeling about it at all. The menu was quite extensive with lots of dishes. The waiting staff were all young English girls who were very pleasant. We made our selections & in due course our food arrived. It was nicely presented & tasted good. Slightly spicy for one of us but that's personal taste really. Overall as a Thai dining experience it was disappointing. The food was fine but the atmosphere was not really hitting the mark. I've no idea if the Chef is Thai (not the matters I guess if they can cook the dishes well) but there really was nothing Thai about the place except the food. I think they concentrate on the Take Away side of the business & that shows. I definitely wouldn't go back to dine in. I'd possibly just order...
