So booked this for Mothers day.Never been before but reviews were good. We arrived and got our drinks we then ordered roast dinners we waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our roasts to come when asking the waiter several times what was going on he said it was because they were busy but there were empty tables and about 4 people dining and two at the front it didn't look overly busy. Two people were there when we first arrived and had been waiting well over an hour and a half to then be told their older had not gone through to the kitchen so they both left. The food was very nice and the pudding was very nice I then found a hair in my vegetables which I gave to the waiter he did not say anything more about it. My friend was not given any other option apart from The Mothers Day menu we then found out that the table in front had different meals and when we asked them they told us there was a specials board we did not know this so she had to have something off the Mother's Day menu which she didn't really like. There was some musicians that were playing live towards the end of the meal and it was very very loud to the extent you could not hear each other speaking One table jokingly said when they had finished please can you turn it down it so loud but they ignored her and continue to play the really loud music even though it was nice it was far too loud for a place like that when we spoke to the manager at the end she halved the bill which was good but did not want to know anything about our bad experience and said she would never do Mother's Day again but it was not...
Read morePopped in for lunch expecting something nice, I had a chicken burger which was practically inedible, it was really hard, dry and chewy, couldn't manage much of it, the fries with it were inedible, tasted like baked cardboard, none of us could eat those. My son's wings were quite nice and the salad was pretty fresh, but the burger my wife had although cooked ok had the taste and texture of cheap mechanically reclaimed beef, that kind of slimy texture telltale of such meat. They didn't charge us for the chicken burger and one of the fries, but still spending over 40 what we managed to eat didn't seem like a good deal at all..
Edit (in reply); I stand by my review, I don't doubt that when they were originally taste tested and put on the menu the fries were good, however that doesn't change what was placed on our table on the day, all four of us found the fries inedible so this wasn't one persons opinion, that combined with the hardness of the chicken (which we demonstrated to the staff by trying to push a knife through it) meant they tasted as if they had either been recooked from the day before, or really just overcooked, I had to get something else to eat elsewhere afterwards.
We eat beef burgers all over the UK and Europe and the texture of the beef was really not good, so I don't know if you had a bad batch but I can only comment on what was put on the plate, the wings and salad were...
Read moreOutstanding and atmospheric place for a drink and food. Special beers on tap and the food is freshly cooked at reasonable prices. The staff are so welcoming and friendly they might, if not careful, fall over themselves. The pub is always full and is really quaint and olde worldly with a large fireplace with a bulls head above it. WiFi is free and the pub is well worth a visit. Keep up the good work guys
This is our second visit, within a year as we tour Britain, and I do feel they have excelled themselves yet again. The food was magnificent for the price and the three ladies that dealt with us where exceptional. It's just a pity that we will not be coming again to this part of the British Isles
I am not going to deduct a star but one thing the pub needs to look at is the use of vapes in the eating areas. This should not be allowed in my opinion, we still do not know what long term health hazards...
