Decor of the pub, good historic pub. Food is nice but the customer service is very poor, not warm welcoming, lack of rapport and friendliness with customers, the staff behind the bar look down on you, if you try speaking to them they speak to you with low tone, the girl behind bar kept looking down on me and then when I bought the food, I was going to sit inside but changed my mind since I had the dog so he can sit at side of me, the bar staff then came over and had a right go at me because I took my plate out into the beer garden, bar staff had a right go at me saying I wasnāt allowed to eat my food outside and to take it inside, Iāve never known anything like this in my life, itās ridiculous, at end of the day Iāve paid out for my food and should be able to sit anywhere and she was like no you have to go and sit and eat inside the pub, I said I didnāt mind transferring it to a box (although in reality I shouldnāt have to) she then said I need to go inside to go and get a box, I thought she might have said Iāll get you one, she was like you have to go in the pub and get you one yourself, which I didnāt mind but at same time, all this was ridiculous and she said it wasnāt her fault, it was down to the landlord.
At one time this was a really lovely warm welcoming pub, used to be one of my favourites, but over the past few years it really has gone down hill, due to the lack of customer service and the way itās run. Iāve often been here whether alone on my walks or with friends. Last time I came here with my partner and noticed the customer service wasnāt great and my partner noticed too, but today I thought Iād give it another chance. I wonāt be giving it another chance again, this is the last time Iāll be visiting, I also used to recommend it to people, not anymore. Until this place gets a new landlord or better staff who have proper people person and good customer service skills then no wonāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIts a great place to visit Wentworth that is! great walk about up to the Hall and back to the garden centre, and then a lovely walk to the George and dragon with all its history and character and if your lucky a really nice trouble free lunch and pleasant time! this is where the tale turns around! full of young staff and a modern feel ! the food is generally good but on our last occasion after eating there many times over the past 5 years a word of caution? we ordered our meals which takes about 45mins to arrive no problem in waiting but whilst trying to eat my lamb casarole pie It tested my very expensive dentures to australia and back again? the pie sides and top im sure where so Granit hard and burnt they must have been used before by Oliver Cromwell to throw at the Royalists on the streets of wentworh in the 1650s, When i asked to speak to the chef the 5yr old over enthusiastic manager refused saying that was not ethical but as it was after all the chefs responsibility to step up to the plate so to speak and explain why he had sent out from his kitchen an un edible item the manager spent the next twenty five years of my life disagreeing with my findings and that i was guilty of eating some of the meal ! i explained that i ate the inner part of the pie as the ex toughened german army helmet he had now converted into a so called edible pie was now in danger of wiping out any chance of me having offspring had i attempted to have swallowed it and choked on its unrecognisable formation? I in retrospect would advise the manager to put on his short school trousers go back to PR school, and for the chef to take up window a cleaning job as there are lots of little windows in Wentworth! To b fare its a lovely pub and this mistreatment will not stop us going...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery good standard of Gastro pub food, beautifully presented and tasty menu and huge portions, not for the faint hearted but full on flavour. My wife chose the steak and ale pie which was possibly inspired by Desperate Dan's 'Cow pie' that even the most voracious appetite would be challenged to finish she only managed half of it after having a tasty tomato and basil soup to start which was delicious. I began with beef cheeks which were melt in the mouth and a meal in themselves, this was followed by a Jumbo battered haddock which I'd describe as a close relative of Moby Dick, it was huge and served in a crispy light batter sat on top of dark brown chips a pot of mushy peas, wedge of lemon and tartar sauce, my only suggestion to improve this British classic would be to add beef driving to the vegetable oil as this gives the best original and authentic taste to the batter and chips but I realise that I'm being somewhat picky in pointing this out on what was an excellent evening where everyone in our large party enjoyed everything served. I would highly recommend the George & Dragon to anyone, a word of caution though, make sure you are really hungry in order to do justice to what you are about to receive. We'll be back once again, well done to the staff and management and keep up...
