Paulos Restaurant — Restaurant in Rotherham

Quite disappointed... My partner and I went there for a lovely meal after finishing work quite late on. They were quite accomodating.. however when you enter the restaurant we were found to be stuck between the door and the waitress waiting awkwardly for someone to acknowledge us even if the waitress was right Infront of us. We ordered the mushrooms and fried cheese for starters. The mushrooms were undercooked and chewy, the fried cheese was... Well... Had probably been out and already fried since the morning, had definitely been reheated. So minimum effort put in there. We then ordered pizza, both pizzas were undercooked and the dough was raw, we asked for it to be taken back, it was re-baked... Came back a bit better but still undercooked. The owner did apologise for the food, however we only brought up the issue of the pizzas, as we didn't want to make a fuss initially with the starters.. he ended up giving us a lovely complimentary Bailey's and chocolate. In all fairness, the decor was nice, the atmosphere was lovely, it's a busy popular restaurant and we can tell it's probably got good food ( most of the time) , we just got unlucky. I think the chef might need a few lessons in " re kindling his love...

Had 3 courses which is unusual for me but the food was so good I couldn't resist. I had Cocktail De Gambas starter, Steak Diane main, Biscoff Cheesecake desert and an original mojito. The Steak was cooked to perfection n melted in my mouth, prawns fresh and succulent but I definitely saved the best until last because the cheesecake was totes amazeballs ❤️ we went at 5:30 on a Monday tea time and I was surprised how busy the restaurant was - when we left at 7.30 the restaurant was full so it's obviously very popular and there's good reason for that. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. The only thing I will mention is the service is a little slow - if you're out for the whole evening it doesn't really matter so much but we were just out for tea n I had to ask for my dessert 3 times. I don't think they need more staff necessarily, I just think they need to speed up the table service. There were a few groups in the restaurant and all the tables were full but there wasn't much of an atmosphere. The staff aren't particularly chatty although they were polite and professional. First time visiting this restaurant with a group of friends.

The food I had was lovely. The Calamari was cooked to perfection and the Lasagne was also good.

What let this visit down was the waiting staff. Food was almost banged down on the tables. When ordering extra drinks or desserts it was like it was too much trouble for them. There's a saying "Service with a smile 😊" This was lacking at my visit.

As a party of 10 there were a couple of hiccups in the food orders but this was soon sorted.

Come to paying they had no change? So we all paid by card. Thought this a bit weird. If their preference was card payments then put a sign up saying so.
