Royal Elephant — Restaurant in Rotherham

If you are a sugar addict, this place will get your approval! Unfortunately for me, I don't expect quite the amount of added sugar that the Royal Elephant's chef included in every dish. Everything that came with a sauce tasted like it had heaps of the stuff piled in. It was sweeter than a gummy plumber's milky tea! Some of the starters were obviously reheated (half a skewer of satay chicken was still cool!) but while I don't expect the kitchen to prepare everything freshly from scratch, however, once again, the starters' accompaniments are best suited to those with a sweet tooth. The other Thai flavours are still present, but as you might have guessed by now, they were overpowered by the excessive sweetness. Finally, I'd suggest you check the bill, because I was overcharged. I haven't tried the traditional English Sunday roast, so might give that a go, but I won't be back for the Thai food...

We used to come here regularly for Sunday carvery in previous years, however, the last few visits have been incredibly disappointing. Whilst fresh, the vegetables were bland and tasteless. Meat was ok, but little taste. The worst parts were the service and desserts. Service - sporadic and disjointed. We were a party of 17, and desserts were brought out in 3s and 4s with a huge wait while the others were being plated up. Desserts - these are not restaurant quality. They're from Costco, served with cheap squirty cream or cheap ice cream. And the portions are insultingly small considering the price from Costco to buy a whole one and the size you actually receive on your plate. It's sad, but unless we have to, we won't for carvery again. This isn't the place...

Really enjoy the food here.One of the best Sunday carvery meals I have been to. Thai meals have also been very good in the past. Only reason for not giving five stars is the desserts haven't great (chocolate cake a little dry) and even though the service is always great and the staff are extremely friendly, if you arrive a little early and have a drink at the bar area, you are rushed through to your table before ready.
