Tonight we feasted at the Venus restaurant for my mothers 63 birthday and it was a brilliant night.
We were met at the door by a nice smiling and friendly matradee who showed us to the other guests we were dining with, he was quick and very professional.
After we joined our party we took a trip to the bar to get some refreshments we were served in a timely fashion and got what we ordered, when my daughter said she wanted a drink it was no problem for him to give us a cordial and water for her, when we offered to pay for it he said no, it was on him.
When all our guests arrived the matradee came back and took our food orders before been shown to our table, taking the food orders there and then to me was a great idea as it gave us time to sit and chat and made it so the food came out fast.
With there been 12 people in our party we thought it might take ages to get what we ordered, 3 of us ordered the mixed grill and that alone would have put other places behind.
When the food comes it is another brilliant idea, The waiter comes to you with your food to the table and serves everything to you on to your plate, then other waiters and waitresses come around with steaming hot veg and offer as much or as little as you want.
The food was piping hot and the meat was juice, I found it hard to eat everything on the plate as there was so much. I managed to eat all the meat but my oh my I am still full.
There was one server there who impressed me the most, she was polite and attentive with our needs, she even went to get my son who it 2 a lolly pop. I found her to be the one who was really interested in us and bent over backwards to make sure everything was great. don't get me wrong the other staff were just as helpful she was the one who just stood out the most.
We stuck around for a while and never once got asked to move from our table, we left at about half nine with smiles on our faces.
I just wish more places could be like the Venus, this is one of my favourite places to...
Read moreIve been going to the Venus or Deans as we have known it for more years than I care to remember, as I was telling my son on our last visit me and his Dad used to go when we were courting, now theres a word for you, and we have been married over 40 years,
Its Always been so special and always looked forward to going, we have recently been for Sunday lunch for a birthday, and sorry but its not the Venus I know and love, the place is just beautiful, as it always has been, the staff are ammazing, but sadly the food is not like it was, and for £27, quite expensive and I expected better, fair enough there was plenty of veg and very nicd nice, the roast potatoes though not very good, and the yorkshire puddings though very large, not home made, too uniform in size, and crispy and hard.
My soup was luke warm, all the other starters were quite nice, it was the main courses, I had pork which was realy hard and dry, totally over cooked, another guest had beef which was quite chewy, the lamb I hear was ok, the pie, the crust was preformed and looked like a large short bread biscuit, again sadly not the best.
The deserts again used to be delicious, the hot sponge was so sweet it made my teeth hurt, and not home made, the creme brulee, was so small, realy I was totally under whelmed with it all, and I think its burst my Venus bubble, sorry but thanks to the staff cant fault them, sad to say I wont be coming again.
The 3 stars are for the staff...
Read moreI love this restaurant and the service is exceptional. I don't want to leave any negative comments but I would just like to highlight some things that could be improved. The Yorkshire pudding on Sunday was inedible, I think it must have been down to the mixture, they was very dry and dense. The mash potato was a little too buttery and I wasn't keen on the cinnamon on the veg. Also the cheesecake was really crumbly, the base wasn't binded together properly and also the filling just fell apart, it wasn't the right consistency. I think everything is perfect, the ambience, the service, the price is great but I think the chefs need to just brush up a little bit with the homemade things, maybe it was just an off day. Also a little tip, I had that many different staff come to serve me it gave a negative feel, although all friendly I think it would be better to perhaps have a few staff working in sections, on the same tables instead of all over the place as there was a lot of staff working. Despite this, I will definitely return and 5...
