As you would expect from a pub chain like Wetherspoons, it is a fairly reasonably priced establishment.
Seats in some areas are packed in and there are often shortages of condiments. menus and other items. The cleanliness seems to leave a lot to be desired, with many items of furniture caked in grubby marks or approaching the end of its useful life.
Some of the staff can, on occasions, be abrupt and surly, while others are perfectly pleasant.
The worst aspect of the pub is a minority of the patrons. These people really let the side down with loud or uncouth anti-social behaviour. A couple of evenings have been ruined, one by a woman that was abusing kids outside the pub, who tend form gangs just outside, then spent the evening hiding from the police. One by a man who was abusing others by shouting names at them based on their physical attributes!
To sum up, okay for a cheap pint, not somewhere to enjoy a decent...
Read moreHaving visited quite a good number of pubs serving food I can't help but be caught up with The Church House, a house built in 1810 (Cross house) consecrated to a church around a century after - then to a house of ale worship. Sounds better than a 'bank to a trendy wine bar'...
Baring the history of the place, the actual pub itself is quite well run inside. Good priced food and drink is on offer, Wetherspoons run they have the buying clout to bulk-buy and nail down much of the pricing. The place mostly is clean, food and drink comes out spot on, but the main criticism is that it has an under-staffed feel to it. At times plates and glasses can be left for a whle. As an ex bar employee I usually clean up my own glasses and the odd one on the way, but empties slowly adding up makes me wonder who is...
Read moreAlways visited this Wetherspoons and never had a bad experience until today. We have never seen this young girl work here before but the attitude she gave us was absolutely disgusting. Online, it states that the pub shuts at 1am on a Friday, however, at 12:15 we got told to drink up, which we started to do so because we understood that they were quiet and wanted to go home. After about 5 minutes of being told to drink up, the young girl then approached us and said “I suggest you sip up”. As we began to leave, the same girl said “you have left a mess” and once confronted, moaned about a few straw wrappers on the table. I suggest that this girl chooses a different career path than hospitality, along with her manager who didn’t care when we approached this...
