La Casa Loco — Restaurant in Rugby

Casa Loco is a Mexican restaurant located in the center of Rugby, known for its lively atmosphere and bold flavors. However, unfortunately, our recent experience at the restaurant was not enjoyable.

Atmosphere: The atmosphere at Casa Loco is festive and energetic, with bright decor and lively music. It was packed so was hoping it would be a great experience. Lots of parties and room for larger tables.

Service: The staff is friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately, the service was slow and disorganized during our visit. This might've been as there was a larger table on a weeknight.

Food and Drink: The food at Casa Loco was disappointing. The dishes lacked the bold and vibrant flavors that we were expecting from a Mexican restaurant, and the side portions were small for the price. The guacamole was underwhelming, with a bland taste and a mushy texture, and the tacos were dry and lacked any real depth of flavor.

The Calamari tasted (and looked) disappointing, it definitely wasn't fresh so maybe they buy frozen foods? Just speculation but you can look at the pictures and decide for yourself. The steak was interesting as it tasted like what I'd expect at a British pub/whetherspoons, no Mexican flare to it at all. Maybe some Salsa or something other than gravy could have been in-keeping with the theme. The corn tacos were decent, although my carne asada was pretty dry.

Despite the disappointing food, the drinks at Casa Loco were well-made and tasty. The margaritas were particularly noteworthy, with a good balance of sweet and sour flavors.

Prices: The prices aren't high but that's fair for the quality of the dishes.

Overall, while I appreciate the effort put into creating a lively and festive atmosphere at Casa Loco, I wouldn't recommend it based on our experience...

Headed here for birthday meal and service was very slow sat waiting for 40 mins for any food to appear. Then had premium burrito and the pork was disgusting and made me nearly throw up. It was wet squidgy like been recently unfrozen or undercooked it turned my stomach instantly and I had to leave my entire meal as was gagging and close to throwing up. I would have raised it but every member of staff avoided my gaze until the bill. In no rush to waste money or feel sick from food again

Edit - thanks for the owners reply telling me “how dare I” and that I am a keyboard warrior etc- sorry I give honest reviews only too many instagram types give positive for freebies. This was my experience at the time I genuinely felt sick from the food. I will not pretend for sake of looking good, I would thought you would want to know this information so can sort for future people. Rather than attacking me directly and my character why not ask the “why” it could be perhaps a bad portion or anything really. I too had heard good things about hence was there in the first place. And you’ll see many good reviews from myself as again I’m just honest I’m not here for fame or freebies. Sorry if that disappoints you and notice how I do not attack you back....

Booked via telephone and when we arrived we were advised that we had been booked into the bar menu area, which serves tapas and light snacks. Unfortunately, it had not been explained during the booking that the restaurant operated two different areas with different menus, the tapas and the full menu, meaning our booking was for tapas only. We were expecting full meals, so hadn't ate much through the day, so tapas wasn't ideal. Ordering is done via your phone, which is convenient, and we had been advised to order a dish at a time so they don't all arrive at once. Whilst this was perhaps a good suggestion as the food arrived hot and fresh, unfortunately it wasn't possible to order after 9pm, and as our booking was 8:30, this meant that we only managed to get two tapas dishes before then. If you are expecting full meals then I suggest that you check what area of the restaurant you are being booked into.
