Over 5 years living in farnborough, I really thought there was nowhere good to eat until I discovered the crab and anchor. The menu had so many amazing choices that I really struggled what to choose, which generally never happens. They all had my mouth watering. I opted for the deep fried Brie as a starter, steak Diane for main and apple crumble for dessert. The deep fried Brie had no business being so good. It was an absolute chefs kiss and I could have had it for my main and dessert too. The main was delicious. I ended up with two thin steaks rather than a big juicy one that I had imagined, but it was still so good that I had no complaints. As for the crumble. Well, I do love a good crumble. And good crumbles are hard to find in most places, so it’s always a gamble for dessert, but the rest of the food had me confident it would be worth it. I wasn’t wrong. There’s such a great selection of drinks as well, with multiple beers on tap allowing me a pint of Staropromen with my meal. The staff were brilliant too. Very polite and friendly, attentive to our table even when the place got very busy (it was a Saturday evening) and as we left they all said goodbye in a much more than perfunctory fashion which left us feeling that the whole experience had been perfect for a meal out. I would give more stars if I could.

Well where do I start!!! I loved this restaurant! Until tonight! Think it has had a change of management. I ordered a Doombar ale! Anyone who knows Doombar will know if it was cloudy it is off! I said to the young waitress the doombar is off! She said no it’s not. I said it’s not drinkable, she took it to the bar. The manager and barman said it’s not. I went up to the bar. He said it was a new barrel. I said it’s off. It should be clear. so rude! So then the main course arrived. Lamb Kelftico. So eating through my way through the dish. Looked quite dry, but hey hoo. Anyway I got to the bottom of the dish only to find a chicken nugget!!! I separated it and put it on the plate and continued to finish the meal. The waitress came to the table to take the plates away, I asked her why there was a chicken nugget in my dish? Her reply was (I don’t know I didn’t bake it) Shocking! I then asked for the bill and the manager came with the bill. I asked why was there a chicken nugget in my meal. He replied with… I’m sorry it must of fallen off a child’s meal. I said I don’t think so, as it was at the bottom of the dish!! He reduced the bill by £13 taking the bill down to £40. He didn’t appear to care at all.

I had a lovely family meal here today, with 5 people. The atmosphere was lovely, well decorated and feels very intimate. Even with the lights, there were windows that were letting in some gorgeous sunshine from outside. The service was great, but unfortunately there were only 2 members of staff for a full restaurant! There definitely needs to be more because it did take things like paying and ordering a bit longer than ideal. However, the staff were still great, checking on us and if we needed any drinks through the meal. The staff also were lovely and accommodating for my father, letting us have a take out box because he couldn't finish his meal. The food was great value for money and was delicious. The portions were very generous and the quality was lovely. My only suggestion would be to have some more veg on the chicken and pork dish, but overall, absolutely delicious and will be back!

This was a work's meal and I wasn't too bothered about the chosen place because my husband and I had previously been here for a meal and weren't impressed. That was a while ago, so was happy to go as that could've been a one off or things have improved, as everyone said the food is really. Unfortunately, things hadn't changed and this was probably even worse!

First problem was the booking. I phoned and made a booking and then had to change it to the following week. I left a voicemail about the change but didn't get a reply, so I phoned up. I spoke to a man with a strong accent and having now been in there, I am pretty sure I know who it was. The man wasn't paying any attention and not listening, and when I said I hadn't had a response to my voicemail he said they're very busy and doing a refurb. I gave the details for the new booking and followed it up with an email. No reply.

When I turned up, when I got inside the first thing I noticed was there was no change in the decor. Not sure what was meant by a refurb.

What surprise, there was no booking for us, the place was empty and the gentleman that spoke to me was clearly not happy. I pointed out that I sent an email and I told they have been very busy. I added that the email was sent a week previous. No apology or anything, just a miserable face.

Food was average. I had prawns to start, delicious garlic sauce. We all had steaks and all requested rare/medium, they were all rare. I don't mind too much but it was a bit too under cooked for me. A side of mushrooms ordered and not received. Side of potatos look yummy, but didn't taste it.

Puddings weren't anything special either, especially at the price. One was a brownie that had clearly been microwave and was tiny (as in the height), looked very flat. Another was apple crumble and custard. The custard was in a pot which wasn't even full to half way. None of this was anything special.

When it came to paying, I asked to pay X amount by card, they put in the wrong amount. So, did another payment.

They had a tip, but it wasn't a lot, which under the circumstances, I'm fine with because none of the gave a service deserving if one.

Would I go again?...

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with yesterday's visit to the Crab and Anchor, which is a shame, as I have been there a few times before and it's been better. Yesterday, when we arrived, it took at least 5 minutes of standing by the "wait to be seated" area before anyone came over; plenty of staff looked at us, but all ignored, when someone did come over and ask if we had a booking, the manager then whisked them off to do something else! Finally we got seated and were immediately asked if we knew what we wanted to drink, we did so the drinks came pretty quickly. We also knew what we wanted to eat (Sunday roasts and a kids beef burger). The order was placed within 10 minutes of sitting down. However, it took another 50 minutes before we actually received our food. By the time our food came out, the whole area where we were sat had cleared out so, although they were pretty much full when we arrived, there were probably only 5 tables waiting for food when we finally got ours. The food was ok, the vegetables were very nice, except the parsnips were obviously very old as I physically couldn't cut through them, but the meat was over cooked and the Yorkshire's looked like they had been deep fried. All pleasant, just not really nice. After mains we chose and ordered puddings pretty fast. The girl who served us was obviously new, but was nice enough and trying, however, she wrote one of the puddings on the second page of her pad and forgot to put this through on the machine, so my pudding came out 10 minutes after everyone else had finished theirs and after I had chased them. Overall, it's a nice pub, and I would probably eat there again but not on a Sunday as i don't think they can handle the busyness yet. I saw they were advertising for waiting staff, so maybe it's just that they're lacking staff, or a lot of the staff are new and training, so I would give them the benefit of the doubt and try again as the pub itself...

This was one of the most awful experience I've ever had. I went out for dinner with my family and with us was my 4 year old (who has special needs). The waiter took ages to take our order then with that our food took ages to come too. My child's food was last to come even when I ask for it to come as quickly as possible. The food was below average. After my child had finished his food he made a scream of delight with his Grandad who he was enjoying himself with. After this the waiter came up to me and said we don't expect behaviour like that in here and pointed my child and then asked us to leave. This was humiliation at its worst. We then asked to speak with the manager. The waiter had been told by the manager to tell us that my child wasn't well behaved which simply wasn't true. So I kept asking to see the management, the waiter then swore at me and told me to leave. The manager did end up coming and said he would only have this conversation outside which we agreed in the end. The manager then ended up being really rude and took a fighting boxer pose to my husband and dad like he wanted to fight them rather than talk. All in front of me and my very upset child. We walked away without getting our point across to say how humiliating it was and how out of order it was to be told to leave because toddler with special needs made a scream of delight. Also I wanted to ask why the two tables either side of us (all adults) wasn't asked to leave when the were a lot louder than us and we're swearing away. Don't come here especially if you...
