The Hamstead Pub — Restaurant in Sandwell

Been here previously and had nice food but after today there is no way I would ever go back. Me and my friend ordered taste of the southern deep, consisted of a chicken fillet, chicken strip, buffalo wings, chips, dirty coleslaw, dirty gravy BBQ sauce and baconaisse sauce. The chicken fillet and strip we coated in Southern coating which was hard as rock with not much chicken inside, the Cajun wings had obviously been cooked and then rolled in Cajun spice so the dry spice powder was falling off, only ate half of one and couldn't eat the others, the dirty gravy was spicy and watery , more like something you would have with samosa but not as tasty. Worst of all the corn on the cob were cold, I mean ICE COLD. That was also inedible. Mentioned this to the waitress who mumbled a sorry then walked off. No proper apologies no offer of a part refund or complimentary dessert. So basically paid £13.49 for 3 mouthfuls of chicken where the coating was too hard and a few chips. ...

A place where I saw alot of locals having lunch as it is a but off the "beaten track" so you would not necessarily know The Hamstead was there. Probably just not paid attention but not seen any advertising. On a wet (sleet at tines) and windy day The Hamstead was a warm, cosy place to visit with friendly staff and appeared to be be clean tables and clean toilet area. Lots if parking available and the drinks very reasonably priced. The only reason I did not give The Hamstead 5 stars was because I was not able to stay to order food but from the meals I saw being served the portions were generous (not sure about the price) and appeared hot ......

Food here has always been lovely, we live local and come here so often. It’s our first choice always when we want pub grub, but unfortunately our last two visits for food have been disappointing, I don’t know who or what has happened but both times after biting into food the middle was stone cold, rushed & just chucked together, quite a shame as we love this little pub, hopefully food becomes great again soon :) staff are ALWAYS pleasant and very very polite all the time, no fault with any staff member , always feel welcome...
