Decided to give my perspective as a former employee working behind the scenes. Worked here for about a year, and I am grateful for the experience but will be honest nonetheless. The atmosphere behind the scenes was tense. I was accused of being rude to a customer in my first week by a staff member (L) even though her only proof was wrongly ears dropping on my conversation, was told to leave early unaware of this conversation, only being aware when I was texted when I was at home. No one apologised to me for this. Other instances of pettiness was being laughed at right to my face by two staff members ( W& A) for spilling sprinkles, humiliating and downright nasty. Furthermore, remarks said which involved degrading "foreigners." Throughout the time I worked there I felt uncomfortable the whole time, for example because I noticed glares my way by the owner. Angering for me especially as I made an active effort to be positive, for example always being kind, considerate and on time. I even missed plans to avoid not being there, to the point I missed visiting a family friend that later died. All for that rude, ungrateful family business.
Although I am grateful for the experience I will allow myself to speak as I have kept silent previously.
Edit: Didn’t see their response until now, but just wanted to say that there was no space where I could feel comfortable telling them about how I being treated-as the culture in that workplace did not allow for this: cold, passive aggressive. Wendy at best had unconscious bias and at worse was a full blown racist...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic little cafe, had 2 large breakfasts, a medium & a toast. Cant fault the service, table service with a lovely pleasant lady, took our food order and wasnt a hassle swapping my mushrooms for fried bread (which was absolutely divine) Shorty after about 5mins we had 2 massive large breakfast's with 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 proper butchers sausage, black pudding, tomatoes hashbrown and one with mushrooms and mine with fried bread, our medium breakfast 1 egg, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, beans and tomatoes then along came the 6 rounds of beautiful buttered toast 😋 and then the separate order of toast plus a 2 coffee's 1 tea and very sweet vanilla milkshake our table was full of amazing food, everything was cooked to perfection 👌 Not a typical greasy spoon cafe. Theres 100's of Salt & Peppers pots to look and and also a massive counter of fresh homemade puddings, the potions are ridiculously big and the costs are very good for what you get, we were all stuffed and left very slowly and very full. Amazing work to the team, will definitely be...
Read moreFirst visit today after seeing a Facebook post about them struggling. I’ve always walked past here thinking it wasn’t open due to the door not ajar or no A boards out. And the windows also seem pretty dark. I walked into lovely little cafe and ordered a breakfast sandwich. I did think it was a bit on the pricey side for £4.80 (bacon, sausage and mushrooms) The food was promptly bought to my table. I gave the food 4 stars out of 5 as the mushrooms were sadly tinned. However after 2 years of working in this area and always walking past I will make more of an effort to visit and...
