We were staying nearby to catch the Kennecraig ferry and looking for a place for dinner. Our host recommended that we try Cadora Cafe and so we were looking forward to having dinner there. The minute we walked in things seemed off from what she described. There were only three occupied tables but the staff behind the counter completely ignored us. As there were no signs indicating if we should wait to be seated or seat ourselves we opted to snag an open table after standing awkwardly in the doorway for about two minutes. There were the remains of the previous diners on it and I went to move one of the plates when the staff finally decided to act by rushing over, grabbing the plates from my hand, and rudely stating "don't touch that, you'll make more tables dirty." Maybe my intention of helping was misunderstood, but by this point we were so uncomfortable we didn't know what we should do. We uncomfortably sat down and received menus after another minute of being ignored, and we all felt incredibly awkward at this point. So we got up and left. On the way out we got the only smile we would see all evening from the staff as they wished us a nice night. So while I can't rate the place on the food because we didn't eat there, I would stay steer clear of this place during dinner as they are incredibly rude. Maybe the morning/day shift is better? I'd recommend you save yourself some hassle and eat at the Tarbert Hotel instead, great food and very...
Read moreMy partner and I had a lovely breakfast in this cafe - he had the full Scottish breakfast with a pot of tea, cooked to perfection, and I had a couple of breakfast rolls with coffee - also delicious. HOWEVER, the woman who served us was barely civil and had been so the previous evening too when I had had the temerity to ask if the table she was cleaning was now free. Apparently, customers were queuing outside for free tables. Unfortunately for me, we did not realise they were a queue as they appeared to be simply a group of people discussing where they wanted to eat, and when I asked about what I thought was a table becoming vacant, I was informed, not too politely, about the queue. In fairness, the other lady serving seemed really friendly and pleasant to the customers with whom she was dealing and they appeared to enjoy...
Read moreThis place was a little gem of a cafe. We were welcomed by the staff every time we walked in. Menu is varied I enjoyed their panini's and wraps, my partner had their smoked haddock and a bacon burger on our second visit. Their burgers rival any competition that specialises in burgers and as this isn't their primary focus it's bloody impressive.
From service to food, cleanliness to menu options including gluten free and vegan options they have out done themselves.
We tried the other eateries on the street and they didn't hold a candle to this wonderful team.
The atmosphere is friendly, clearly favoured by locals, bikers passing through and holiday makers like us. Strongly recommend for any meal, we were just disappointed we couldn't wake up early enough for breakfast which is served until 11:30am.
Well done...
