We popped in for a quick bite, not expecting too much. Wow! We were utterly wrong! Firstly, the menu was really well thought out, something for everyone. Our drinks were brought to the table quickly, order taken by a charming young man who happily helped with some local information.
When our food was brought to the table it was beautifully presented... as in picture perfect. Everything was delicious, there was simply nothing to find fault with, nothing. The portion sizes are generous, they obviously use high-quality, fresh ingredients, everything is perfectly cooked and presented, the service is fantastic and the prices are incredible... £17.25 for an 8 oz chargrilled Sirloin steak with all the trimmings - including the most perfect chips!
Our server, David, was just delightful and so enthusiastic. I'm becoming rather tired of people who are very obviously working only for the salary. They care nothing for the company, the job or the customer. David could give a masterclass in customer care. Our glasses were never empty, plates and glasses were cleared quickly and the staff made sure we were happy with everything. They were all young, helpful, bright and enthusiastic. What a team.
The restaurant itself is spotless, warm, bright and welcoming. There are some very interesting pictures on the walls. This feels more like a cosy country pub than part of a brewery group. There is even a huge car park.
My family will definitely return to the Elm on our next trip to the...
Read moreWe came here on Saturday evening for the first time with three of our four children. Booked a table online for 7.45pm, which in no way seems late to me for a Saturday evening. Arrived a few minutes early. We were shown to our table by a perfectly nice young man, who said, before we even sat down, 'Just so you know, the kitchen is closing in a few minutes, so I'll be back in a minute to take your orders'. Immediately we felt under a lot of pressure, which isn't what you want when eating out. Then, about a minute later, he came back to the table and said 'just so you know, if you're wanting to order starters these will come out at the same time as your mains due to time constraints in the kitchen'. Given that we absolutely didn't want to have everything brought out at once, with mains getting cold whilst we ate starters, we passed on starters altogether, which we otherwise would definitely have been ordering. We'd had a long day having travelled from Ayrshire to visit a relative in hospital and were looking to fill up before making the journey back home again. It was obvious the kitchen staff were knocking off at 8pm, but I'm sorry, you shouldn't be offering a 7.45pm slot on your website if you can't offer guests a full dining experience. As it was the food we ordered was nice, and the service was also good, but it was a really poor first experience. Will we be back ? Maybe. But definitely...
Read moreVisited here today for some lunch. Sadly very dissapointed. Ordered sweet potato and chickpea curry. When it came potato chunks were still stone cold. Sent back to be reheated and when it arrived was all stuck to the inside of the curry bowl. Pure black underneath. Poppadoms soft . Husband ordered the beef pie chips and veg which was to be glazed carrots ,green beans mange tout and peas. Was advised after ordering that they had no vegetables apart from garden peas which my husband doesn't like. Ordered hunters chicken instead with chips and because no veg it was replaced with what they called salad which was a half of bag of lettuce leaves. No tomatoes, no cucumber, no peppers or sald drizzle . Shocking. Chicken slightly overcooked and tough .Chef obviously had a bad day if there was an actual chef on. Standard of food very very poor. They couldn't even get the drinks correct. Asked for one cube of ice in cold drink but came filled with ice.The waiter was very apologetic about the whole experience and very nice. But overall experience disappointed and not value for money at almost fifteen pound per meal .Although they only charged half price for the cold curry. Afraid we...
